Accor Reverses Points Boost for Qantas Frequent Flyers

Qantas Gold, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers now earn fewer Accor Live Limitless (ALL) points when linking their accounts and flying Qantas.

The partnership between Qantas and Accor

Qantas Frequent Flyer and Accor first launched their partnership in November 2021, allowing members of both loyalty programs to link their accounts and enjoy more rewards.

Through this partnership, members of both loyalty programs can earn Qantas points on top of ALL points when staying at Accor hotels. Accor’s hotel brands include Novotel, Sofitel, Ibis, Mercure, Mantra and Peppers.

There have also been various Accor status fast-track opportunities for Qantas’ frequent flyers.

Changes to ALL points earned for Qantas flights

Part of the original partnership included the ability for Qantas Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers to double-dip by earning ALL points when flying with Qantas. This is in addition to any Qantas points earned for the same flights.

Until June 2023, Qantas Platinum and Platinum One members would earn 2 ALL points for every $10 spent on Qantas airfares. (ALL points are earned on the base fare, but not on any taxes or ancillary fees.)

On 29 June 2023, this earn rate increased to 1 ALL point for every $2 spent on Qantas flights. For the first time, Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold members could also take advantage of that benefit.

However, as flagged by LoyaltyLobby, this earn rate changed again recently to 1 ALL point for every $4 spent on Qantas flights.

I can’t recall seeing any announcement or notification about the earn rate halving from either Accor or Qantas. But the new earn rate is shown on the calculators on both the Accor and Qantas websites.

Change to ALL/Qantas points conversion rate

Earlier this year, Accor increased the rate at which you can convert its points to Qantas points by 25%. Instead of 2,000 ALL points being worth 2,000 Qantas points, you can now get 2,500 Qantas points when converting the same amount.

However, transferring ALL points to Qantas Frequent Flyer still represents a relatively poor deal. 2,000 ALL points are worth €40 (approx. AUD68) when redeemed towards hotel nights. It would be difficult, though not impossible, to get $68 worth of value from 2,000 Qantas points!

Other benefits of the partnership between Qantas and Accor remain the same.
