After a year like none other, there’s finally some good news. Almost all Australian state & territory borders are now open again, and the final remaining border (from SA to WA) could be open by Christmas. As a result, more Australians are travelling and airlines are scrambling to send more flights back in the air.
Earlier this year, Virgin Australia 737 pilot Chris Bournelis (a.k.a. AviatorInsight on AFF) was one of many pilots to be stood down during the lockdown period as demand for domestic air travel plummetted. But with domestic borders reopening and demand returning, Chris (and many other pilots) will shortly return to work! He joins Matt on Episode 51 of AFF on AIR to reflect on the year and explain the process of retraining and returning to the skies after a long period on the ground.
Also in this episode, Virgin Australia has matched Qantas’ recent status match offer. This means that both Qantas & Velocity members now have a good opportunity to switch to the other side. If you’re eligible, why not take advantage of this offer and put your eggs in two baskets?
