Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program has brought back its twice-yearly offer of bonus points when transferring from a credit card or hotel loyalty program a month early!
For the past several years, Velocity has consistently offered at least 15% bonus points as an incentive to transfer points into Velocity from flexible points programs every May and November. Indeed, the last of these promotions took place in May 2022.
Instead of in November, Velocity is this year offering 15-25% bonus points on transfers from selected other loyalty programs from 1-25 October 2022. (While this promotion officially started on 1 October, which fell at the start of a long weekend, Velocity did not begin promoting this offer until 4 October.)
During this promotion, you can earn a 15% bonus when transferring from any of the following bank, hotel or recycling loyalty programs, as shown on the Velocity Frequent Flyer website:
You can get an even higher bonus of 25% when converting points from selected credit card reward programs including Citi Rewards, Suncorp Rewards and Bank of Queensland’s Q Rewards.
There’s also a 20% bonus up for grabs if you have ANZ Rewards or Amex Membership Rewards Premium Ascent points, the latter of which are earned with an American Express Platinum or Centurion card.
All Australian credit card reward programs that offer point conversions to Velocity Frequent Flyer are participating in this month’s promotion, including CommBank Awards which often does not. However, there is no sign of Flybuys this time around.
Instead of giving bonus points, Flybuys is currently running a competition with entries given for every 1,000 Flybuys points converted to 500 Velocity points.
This offer is open to everyone, with no need to register. According to the October 2022 Transfer Campaign terms & conditions, points converted via auto-redemption or auto-transfers are excluded from this offer.
What can you do with Velocity points?
Transferring your credit card or hotel points to Velocity Frequent Flyer could make sense if you wish to redeem for an upgrade or Reward Seat on a Virgin Australia flight. Subject to availability, Velocity points can also be redeemed to fly on Virgin Australia’s partner airlines including Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.
