How to Buy Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios

Qatar Airways Privilege Club is one of six loyalty programs that uses Avios as its points currency. Like British Airways Club, Iberia Plus and Finnair Plus, Qatar Airways’ loyalty program also sells Avios directly to members.

By buying Avios cheaply and redeeming them for high-value rewards, you could save substantial amounts of money on Business Class flights. This includes the legendary Qatar Airways Qsuite.

Since you can transfer Avios between programs on a 1:1 basis, it makes sense to buy Avios from whichever program is offering the best price. That won’t always be Qatar Airways Privilege Club, but it could be when a discount or bonus is running.

How to buy Qatar Avios

You can purchase or gift Qatar Privilege Club Avios on the Qatar Airways website.

The minimum purchase is 1,000 Avios, and you can purchase in various increments:

  • 1,000 – 26,000 Avios in 1,000 Avios increments
  • 26,000 – 100,000 Avios in 2,000 Avios increments
  • 100,000 – 250,000 Avios in 5,000 Avios increments

The maximum purchase limit is 250,000 Avios before any bonuses.

If you register your account in Australia, Qatar Airways lets you buy Avios in AUD. Note that the prices may fluctuate slightly, depending on exchange rate changes.

Qatar Airways charges $44.35 for the lowest amount of 1,000 Avios. However, the rate gets cheaper as you purchase more. Purchasing 26,000 Avios or more in one transaction will get you the best price, at $36.43 per 1,000 Avios (before any discounts or bonuses).

Qatar Airways Avios expire after 36 months of account inactivity. Note that transferring Avios from one “flavour” to another counts as account activity and will prevent your Avios from expiring.

Special deals for buying Qatar Airways Avios

Qatar Airways Privilege Club regularly offers promotions, usually bonuses, for buying Avios.

During the current promotion running from 18-25 March 2025, Qatar Airways Avios are available with up to a 50% bonus. The exact bonus amount depends on how many Avios you buy:

  • Buy 3,000-16,000 Avios to get a 15% bonus
  • Buy 17,000-40,000 Avios to get a 25% bonus
  • Buy 42,000-250,000 Avios to get a 50% bonus

Past offers on buying Qatar Avios

The best ever offer we’ve seen on Qatar Avios was a bonus of up to 60% in February 2025.

Here is a list of the most recent past deals:

Qatar Airways also sometimes applies a targeted bonus or discount to individual accounts. However, you may not receive any notification about an exclusive offer – you’ll have to check on the buy points page.

Redeeming Qatar Avios

You can redeem Qatar Airways Avios for flights on Qatar Airways and Oneworld airlines, as well as various other partners including Virgin Australia, JetBlue and Airlink.

Award flights on some partner airlines appear online. If you can’t book online, you could call Qatar Airways to book… or if you want to book on a Oneworld airline, you could alternatively just transfer your Avios to British Airways Club and book on the British Airways website.

You can get great value by using Qatar Airways Avios for Qatar Airways flights. The airline has lower Avios redemption rates on their own flights, compared to partner airlines, such as 90,000 Avios for one-way Business Class from Australia to Europe. There is also more availability through Qatar Airways Privilege Club for its own flights, versus partner programs such as Virgin Australia Velocity.

You can buy BA Avios under various promotions, sometimes at a good discount, and they are transferrable to QR Avios (and back and forth, 1:1).

By QR points I guess you mean Avios? You can buy BA Avios under various promotions, sometimes at a good discount, and they are transferrable to QR Avios (and back and forth, 1:1).

Thanks Roo. I tried buying the points when they had a promotion but it said I need to have at least ' one point ' in my account. I have zero

Do you know someone in the UK? You can earn Avios via Nectar at Sainsburys, for example. - it was a recent promo. If they buy on your behalf that'll get you started.

Or buy the minimum number of (expensive) QR avios, transfer to BA and then buy there?

There's a thread about it for QF, which also brings in other airlines. World Cup in Qatar in Nov is screwing things up on QR itself for H2 this year.

If you've missed out on buying this time and you don't know anyone in the UK you can buy something online and earn Avios points

If you know someone else with Avios you may be able to send them some or get them to send some to you

Your Avios stay with you as long as you collect, spend, purchase or share at least one Avios every 36 months — any longer and your Avios will expire and be removed, so remember to take action before those three years are up.

There are number of stores you can buy things at to get Avios points (similar to the Qantas Mall) including Book Depository.

There are a couple of other threads

Good luck

@JayTee - if you have an au amex you could just transfer some points to Marriot then transfer those Marriott points to BA avios and onward to QR? Granted it's not the best conversion (altho Marriott has a 50% extra deal on atm) but it would get you a few avios in your QR account.

Otherwise I collect BA avios as my main fflyer currency and use the British Airways Estore all the time even tho I'm currently based in Australia. They have hundreds of online stores you can collect avios with and a lot are relevant for Australia, like booking.com, selfridges etc. Just choose one that credits avios fast and buy a small item and you'll get some in your BA account then transfer to QR.

I use the Estore all the time, most sites you can even spend in AUD and still get the avios (based on the GBP amount tho)

Hope that helps
