Qantas’ huge promotion to reward Australians for getting vaccinated against COVID-19 has started. From today until 31 December 2021, all fully vaccinated Australian-based frequent flyers over the age of 18 can claim their COVID-19 vaccination reward in the Qantas App.
Everyone who participates in the “Been vaccinated? Be rewarded” promotion will be able to choose from one of four giveaways until 31 December 2021:
- 1,000 Qantas points
- 15 Qantas status credits
- $20 Qantas flight discount
- $20 Jetstar flight voucher
All participants will also go in the draw to win one of 8 major prizes of “a years’ worth of flights, accommodation and fuel”. These major prizes include:
- $50,000 worth of Qantas Major Prize Flight Passes for use on Qantas flights (enough for 12 return domestic trips in Business Class and one return international trip in Economy Class)
- 1 million Accor ALL points (worth around $31,800)
- A $3,650 BP gift card
There will be one winner from each Australian state & territory and the major prize draws will take place in January 2022. (Clearly, if you live in ACT, NT or Tasmania, your odds of winning are better than for somebody in NSW or Victoria!)
How to claim your COVID-19 vaccination reward in the Qantas App
The only way to claim your prize is within the Qantas App. If you haven’t already, you can download the Qantas App from the App Store or Google Play Store. If you already have the App, you may need to update it. And if you’re not already a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you can join for free.
When you open the Qantas App, may be prompted to claim your reward at the top of the home screen (as shown below) or at the bottom of your “MY QFF” section.
To claim your reward, you’ll need to upload your digital COVID-19 vaccination certificate from the Medicare App or your MyGov account.
Qantas only accepts Australian-issued COVID-19 vaccination certificates. But if you’ve been vaccinated overseas you might be able to get the details added to the Australian Immunisation Register by a recognised vaccination provider in Australia.
If you’re having trouble with this, Qantas has issued a PDF document explaining how to find your digital COVID-19 vaccine certificate.
You will then need to upload your digital vaccination certificate in the form of a PDF document. Screenshots are not accepted.
Some Australian Frequent Flyer members have encountered problems with the Qantas App not accepting their vaccination certificates. This could be because the file format was incorrect or the name on the certificate didn’t match. But AFF members have already been helping to troubleshoot, with one person suggesting:
Had the same issues with it failing about 3-4 times, claiming name mismatch.
It only works if the PDF is saved in the ‘Downloads’ or ‘Files’ section of the device (I use Android).
If trying to load from any cloud service (Google Drive, for example), it does not work. I even had offline version saved for Drive, with no success. Once I transferred to ‘Downloads’ folder, it worked in an instant.
Hope this helps!
And let us get past 80% soon together!
Stay cheerful everyone!

Qantas will not store your vaccination certificate and your information will be collected in accordance with its privacy policy. This is explained in the FAQs on the Qantas website:
Will my health information be saved?
No. The Medicare digital certificate is used only to validate your entry in real-time and then discarded. We will only store the document number but no further details.Who will be able to see my health information?
Your health information will be processed automatically and then discarded. Nobody will have access to this information.
Which Qantas COVID-19 vaccination reward should I select?
After uploading your COVID-19 digital certificate, you’ll be prompted to select from one of the four rewards.
If you choose the 1,000 Qantas points or 15 status credits, these will be credited onto your Qantas Frequent Flyer account within 3 days. It generally takes only a few hours.
Qantas status credits contribute towards your tier in the loyalty program and can count towards upgrading to or renewing Silver, Gold, Platinum or Platinum One membership. However, status credits earned from the “Be Vaccinated? Be rewarded” offer do not count towards lifetime status or any Loyalty Bonuses. This has been confirmed already by an AFF member.
Status Credits landed. Can confirm they don’t count towards lifetime.

If you choose the $20 Qantas flight discount, you’ll receive a promo code by email that can be redeemed for a $20 discount when booking a flight for one passenger on the Qantas website. This promo code will be valid for 12 months and can’t be used for bookings with multiple passengers.
If you choose the $20 Jetstar flight discount, you’ll receive an email within 7 days containing a Jetstar flight voucher. To redeem this voucher, the person named on the voucher must be one of the passengers on the booking. The voucher must be used within 12 months.
Many Australian Frequent Flyer members have chosen to take 1,000 Qantas points, but it’s of course up to you.
You can read the full T&Cs for this promotion on the Qantas website.
Virgin Australia announced in June that it will also run a giveaway for vaccinated Australians, with prizes including 1 million Velocity Frequent Flyer points and free Business Class flights. Virgin said at the time that it will launch its promotion once all Australian adults are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
