It appears AA is changing the earn rates for QF codes effective 1st August.

See: American Airlines oneworld partner

All classes will earn EQM/EQP with the exception of E class which is only used for domestic sales.

O class earnings will be halved making it now twice as hard to earn AA status by EQM if flying mostly O or Q class fares (sale).

Thanks for the post.
And E class is the standard discount fare class.
And in the case of O class if you qualify by EQP, the earn is even less useful.

I see the upside as at least the the deep discount tickets will count towards status qualification through sectors flown, if nothing else.

Overall, it is better now though, isn't it?

Maybe not - Many deep discount bookings on QF are in O class.

Q came up infrequently and when N appeared it was due to O class being unavailable, and is generally more expensive.

Looking at my own lists of QF bookings, those in economy are all in O class.

EQP earnings will drop to ⅛ per mile travelled.

So LAX-SYD in O class would earn ~ 945 EQP's for the ~7500 travelled.

So in the end if you have QF status E O and Q will likely be credited to QF, which is the outcome QF wanted I think.
Otherwise the AA/BA code shares look better and better when they are available if you need to credit to AA.

Yes I just shifted one QF domestic O class to the QF FF program. Maybe another...
Now if QF will fix the exPER QF fare prices.

Qualifying on a sector basis all depends on what route you are flying so it can be both easy and hard depending on one's route/destination.

For example if you are simply doing SYD-LAX return from August, you'd need 12.5 return O class trips to reach GLD, 25 to reach PLT and 50 to reach EXP. But say you do SYD-LAX-SFO return, then that changes to 4.5, 8.5 and 17 (rounded to nearest half trip) respectively.

For comparison, qualifying by EQM on just O class SYD-LAX return trips currently (before August) requires 3.5 for GLD, 7 for PLT, 13.5 for EXP. So no matter how you look at it, the reduced earn makes it harder to qualify even if you switch to qualification by segments.

So from August:

Flying O/Q fares, crediting to QF will get you status faster.
N or higher of the Y buckets, crediting to AA will be faster.
All W fares, crediting to AA will be faster.
All J fares, crediting to QF will be faster.
All F fares, crediting to QF will be faster.

Wow, for a short while earlier this year they had QF O class fares earning nothing, which was a switch with N class which at that time earned 50% of base and 0.5 EQP (similar to the pre-July 31 O class). The website has changed and doesn't show what I'm referring to though.

Good for N and Q flyers, esp short haul flights with AA status because of the 500 mile minimum (and 25% RDM bonus for Gold and 100% for Plat/EXP).
If you are looking at it strictly from a RDM redemption POV, if you had to choose between a min of 625 AA miles or 1000 QFF points then I know which one I'd value more...

If I book a Qantas MEL-ADL flight in V class and credit to AA where I have no status, am I right in saying I will earn ~400AA Miles?

If so since i've already Qualified for QF WP and no need for the SC (won't make loyalty bonus) so this means I need to decide between 400AA Miles or 1,000 QFF Points...

The decision would be harder of you had status....
ADL-MEL is 399 miles. The 500 mile minimum would apply (if you have status)
V class on QF earns 50% of mileage as EQM and equal EQP.
So I suspect you would earn 200 EQM and 200 EQP. Given that V class is now considered semi-flex on QF (THINK $$) I would venture that if self-funded I would credit QF unless counting segments. With status it would be 250 plus status bonus for RDM.

See the QF earn chart on AA.com American Airlines oneworld PartnerIt is pretty apparent (IMHO) that QF does not want to buy partner miles on normal Y cabin fares.

The 500 mile minimum for elites is essentially a 625 mile minimum RDM. Elites get a minimum 25% status bonus on top of the 500 (for Gold). Plat and EXP get a 100% bonus (ie min 1000 RDM).

ADL-MEL on a QF flight number in V class for someone with no AA status will earn 200 RDM (ie "points"), 200 EQM and 200 EQP.
For a Gold that becomes 625/500/500 and for Plat/EXP 1000/500/500.

The AA website says 1 Elite Qualifying Points per mile, which would mean its 400 (actually 399) and 50% Base Miles... Which one does RDM come from EQP or BM?

So sounds like the decision is ~200AA miles or 1000QFF points & 20SC.... Think i'll take the QFF points/SC then.
