Hi All
I need some clarification regarding the optimum methodology for using the AA web site to search for status runs - particularly in regard to which methodology comes up with the best price for a given route.

Using a SR from LAS to SJU and return as an example, once you have accessed the Find Flights Multi-City section do you just enter 2 flights i.e. LAS - SJU and SJU - LAS and then let the platform come up with the options for the intermediate legs (e.g. through DFW, ORD, JFK, MIA or whatever) ? Or do you get given equal or better pricing if you enter each of the individual legs as separate flights in the multi-city search? Or do they both come up with the same result for the equivalent routing?

I'm trying to work out if the SC earn for a given no. of $$ is enhanced by engaging some creative routing e.g. is it an advantage to fly ORD - JFK via DCA rather than direct ? Or is the marginal cost of the extra SCs not worth it? (I know I could compare just the cost of the ORD - DCA - JFK route with that of the ORD - JFK one but my understanding is that the overall pricing comes down if you throw in a leg to somewhere in Sth America or the Caribbean so using that type of comparison of legs in isolation might not get me the right answer)

Use ITA to search, then book using multi-segment.

As for earning, know your bands and booking classes.

Use mileage monkey to determine earn.

I found that when I used "multi-city", routings that I knew existed didn't always appear.
If you're trying to complete more than one leg, particularly on the same day, then put times in so that the first leg is in the morning and the next in the afternoon etc. Use specific times eg 10:00 rather than "morning".

It seems to open up more options.
