A friend is getting married in Melbourne on AFL Grand Final Day. Unfortunately coming from Perth this makes travel arrangements expensive, but I thought I would benefit from previously obtained AA miles through a (one-way) business class redemption.
I have just got off the phone not being able to book and after a debate with the phone agent who insisted that the mileage was 35k for one way. I kept referring to:

The best I got in answer was that it must be a special promotion (ha ha).
Given the popularity of the travel period, all flight options are via ADL or SYD. Am I correct in saying this should make no difference to the required mileage? If so, how on earth does one redeem for the actual mileage if calling the Brisbane phone number is not the go?
