Received a letter today in regards to the points earn on my American Express Ultimate card. Looks like points earn rates are going back to what they were prior to the 3/2/1/0.5 scheme. Fairly blanket 1.5/$1 from June 2017 except on government bodies.

Seems like a positive change to me, especially once the RBA interchange cap hits bank issued Amex cards. Hopefully the change will be introduced across a broader range of American Express issued cards. Only downside would be the loss of points on Qantas, restaurants and hotels.

From 1st of June 2017:
  • You will earn 1.5 Qantas Points for every $1 spend on Card purchases, except spend at government bodies in Australia where you will continue to earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent.
  • Your new earn rate of 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spend includes spend on utilities, insurance and telecommunications providers, which was previously 0.5 points per $1 spent.
  • You will also continue to earn 1 additional Qantas Point per $1 spend on selected Qantas products and services in Australia.
