I called up to find when I need to book my "free flight" and found it is the anniversary date of having the card. (I was not sure since I had to book by Oct last year to gt a QF flight.) So i you activated/received a card on July 15th then you have until this date the next year to use the "flight" up.
Am thinking about using the flight to NZ, and will book it shortly.

Any way of knowing which fare bucket it needs availability in?
...
Based on my recent booking experience:

-Fare buckets: X, L, C, E (Somewhere in those classes)
-Can't pay extra to book into high classes
-Direct flight only
- $70 fee + airline additional for date change
The free flights I booked using the card ended up in R Class. They didn't earn Velocity points.
I also asked what fare class they booked into.

The answer (After a pause - like I could almost percieve the agent thinking "well ... Duh!") was "economy"!

I pressed, asking which of the different economy classes ... a short pause then was told "Saver".

Finally I said, "If I had access to a GDS what individual fare class letter should I look for?". It was almost like a light was switched on - "Tango" or "Romeo" was the confident answer!

So, if this is the case, R class is corroborated and T class is mentioned. I guess to test this one needs to find a flight with T availability but no R then try to book it.

Just called as well, and asked what Classes they look, and suggested "T or R", and the agent quickly responded, almost with a surprised giggle, "Yes, that's it!"

Also, on the day/flight I suggested, ExpertFlyer reported this for availability: J7 O6 H4 Y7 I7 D7 N7 B7 M7 S7 T7 A7 U7 X7 R0 L0 P7 C7 E0, and it was a valid flight with seats available.

I also asked if it can be on any NZ code share flights. Her response was "no, sorry, we don't currently allow that - it has to be Virgin operated, but we are currently in negotiations with Air New Zealand, but for right now now, it's just Virgin"

So, good news on both fronts!

I also asked this again today and the answer was not quite so certain.

She though it was only Virgin but was not sure!

What class does the DJ Award book into

Hey guys,

I've done a search but can't find the answer which somewhat surprised me....

Does anybody know what booking class the AMEX Plat Edge free flight books into with DJ? I know its a saver fare, but does there need to be a particular class?

Cheers,

And these fares do not earn any points or status credits.

Is open jaw permitted...say SYD-WLG, then AKL-SYD?

Hmm

I agree, anything piad for wholly or partially with points appears to have no earn associated with it. Yet, something weird here. If these card provided fares are really booking into R & T, then this table is really confusing:

Status Earn Fare Class| Velocity Frequent Flyer

As it appears that R & T class are classed as Discount Economy for status earning ...

I've got another thread slowly simmering here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ocity/rewards-booking-codes-for-dj-35665.html

Where I ponder the missing codes from the status earning table: O, H, I, D, L, P, C, E

When you get booking confirmation, the fare rules state among other things:

"Frequent flyer points will not be earned on this ticket."

Last year I asked if the passenger could fly into BNE and out of OOL and was told no, had to be the same port.

Amex confirmed open jaw is not permitted. And award flights have to be on Virgin metal so to AKL from Sydney is awkward hours. Outgoing flight arrives 0050hrs, return flight leaves 0800hrs.

I am giving mine away next year , not a good flying experience all round.

In this regard the Alliance with Air NZ has not been a great thing for Plat Reserve flights, I get the distinct impression DJ flights to NZ have been scaled back and there are more codeshare flights which can't be used for these redemptions. This makes flights to NZ very hard to get at anything like decent times. With family in NZ thought I'd be able to get some good value out of these for a weekend/long weekend for SYD to WLG (family), ZQN (family) or CHC (skiing) but struggling to find any decent flight times on DJ metal, in fact there seem to be hardly any at all. Almost all are NZ codeshare.
