Qantas flash sale - today only

Last week I noticed Qantas had a flash sale to Johannesburg available for a few hours only and the fares were pretty good.

Today they've got a rush hour sale to China (Beijing $499 and Shanghai $629 return from Sydney) available till midnight.

Seems like it is worth checking the Qantas website after 5pm during the week if they are going to continue having these quick sales.

Seems like Beijing is continually on sale.
Good fare to Shanghai, although substantially more expensive over Easter

Currently Hong Kong rush hour sale on economy SYD/MEL/BNE/ADL from $599 return. (May-Jun, Oct-Nov).
PE and J not on sale.

I've only seen them on the Qantas.com.au home page, seems to go up after 5pm on Tuesday or Thursday. No email or alerts via an app.

Do you think this is a 'test the market' sort of sale, or likely to be an ongoing thing completing with VA's Happy Hour? Either way, I'm interested in the deals! :mrgreen:

My impression is that (at the very least) Y fares from Australia to many destinations with many airlines have decreased in the last couple of months.

Perhaps demand is not what it was? The mainland Chinese airlines (a growing number of them) have expanded aggressively into Australia. Sure, there's a boom in Chinese tourism to Oz, but nonetheless the seat supply has also hugely grown.

One minor example is QR that was apparently set to launch daily DOH - ADL and return flights but cut them back to five a week.

The QF app will alert you if you've previously set up an alert for that destination.

I had an alert pop up Thursday night, and was able to pick up J return to NZ for $1k
