hmmm, u could achieve 50,000 with the Citibank Platinum or whatever the current offer is for $300 and and 10,000 on the free Amex card at the moment???

seems awful expensive...

I applied for the card in December and was curious to know when this promotion started, and would be a bit bummed if I couldn't somehow get my 60k bonus
ANY ADVISE ?

With any of this promos, if you do not apply through the link (or other method as per the promo) you do not get sign-on points.

Thanks worth asking I may try pushing it a bit
I am a citi select member and one never knows.

The 1-1 on visa is a godsend especially after all these F@#4& banks keep moving the goalposts all the time. Its a full time commitment working out the best way to accumulate points.

True... or at least part-time ;)

However my perspective is that the various promos and the like provide opportunities to exploit where one's total effective point earn can be many times one's actual yearly $ spend.

So my part-time job will this 12 months has earnt me 4 J returns to Europe....before tax. So I would have to earn about double that to earn the equivalent. So not too shabby for my "hobby". If I had taken the passive approach, I would only have earnt say about one J....and actually if I had not learnt to achieve better "burn" *A that would only be one Y on QF!!!

The challenge is to sift through the various deals/promos to maximise one's own point earn as our circumstances are all different.

This particular deal is not for me...but others will be.

IF you are not prepared to spend an hour a week on making the most points possible you will be paying a lot for J travel in real money or wondering why you are in Y.
If that is the case start using Kayak app for searching the cheapest tickets. That can be fun as well.
A point a dollar card on QF is really great for J travel inside Australia and also those 350 day ahead overseas bookings.

good point

I've just booked a J class Europe return through Singapore airlines for 250000 points which i think is great.
2 years ago I spent almost double that to get to London Via Qantas

Im currently using Altitude Platinum Amex ditching the Visa and using the Citibank select Visa to maximise my returns for business. 1.5 and 1-1 for Krisflyers

For private use I'm using Westpac Earth Amex and using new Woolworths Qantas MC for 1.5-1 and 1-1 QFF points

Any tips would be appreciated I spend Probably 1-1.5 milion a year on credit cards

I should be maximising my points and should be able to achieve close to 1.5 - 2 million points a year (6-8 J class trips to Europe or the states per Year

You might want to read my ramblings on Frequent Flyer Fiend in blog section of AFF . Nothing brilliant but just an evolving position in a flying game where my wholesale thinking is saving some family money.

60,000 points is a big discount off the first year cost of a Select Visa card.
I need to get a Kris points one and a QF points one so I will wait for their call on more info to see if they can issue both seeing Westpac is choking on their Visa points.

Have any current Citibank Platinum card holders considered taking up this offer, and had any success?

The online application form appears to be geared towards new signups, although the actual terms and conditions regarding the promotion specifically have no mention of this offer applying to new customers only.

I phoned up and was told this offer is for new-to-bank customers only. But given that is not in the promo T&Cs I wonder how legitimate this is. So far though I haven't been able to persuade Citibank to reconsider.

FWIW I have been a Citi Platinum card holder for 8 years, basically do not use the card any more and decided with ease not to take up the Citi Select automatic upgrade that was offered when the card first appeared.

With the changes to Kris/Westpac cards in March though, I was prepared to go with Select given the promo points represent a reasonable recovery on the first year's fee.

Unhappy if that turns out not to be the case...

A similar story is panning out with the competition in the mortgage market. With NAB paying out exit fees and now Comm Bank having zero fee mortgages.

The response form each bank has been to increase incentives for "new to bank" customers which they finance out of the latency of their existing customers not getting the benefits. For instance, Westpac waives the Package fee on new applications while continuing to milk existing clients.

So, the banks have created a climate where they have to provide incentives for us to change. That incentive has to be greater than the pain of staying.

Citi offering 40K, 50K & now 60k and $700 for Citiselect 1:1 KF seem to have experimented to find out what level of incentive it takes for a Westpac client to flip.

I'm heading to Citi.....expecting the pain.

Alby

My pain threshold is high and I have a verbal on 50k or 75k limit approval but am not looking forward to getting the new card working on the Internet.
Go for it Alby and report the pain like I did for Mrscove's card.
Mrscove has made about 400k in points now so that is 200k more for $749 on QF . That Citi card got her j return PER-SYD and a one way J MEL-lAX the retail value being about $9k so all good from a wholesalers point of view!

A couple of specific questions:

Does the 60.000 points come through if I don't go for the QFF option on the card? (I'm still focussing on overseas SQ KF redemptions.) So, 40,000 KF miles.

Is the CitiSelect earning rate as follows?

Spend $100,000 on CitiSelect Visa earns at 2:1 for Citi Rewards

These 200,000 Citi rewards redeem to KrisFlyer at 1.5:1 delivering 133,333 F miles

So, by that logic, the CitiSelect isn't just the same as Westpac KF, it is 33% better earn rate.

I assume there must be a problem with my calculations. Maybe I've crossed the logic across a couple of the KF cards.

Good news on your limits, hope they actually come through.

Citi Select is uncapped and earns $1 = 2 Citi Rewards = 1 KF or Virgin Blue point.

Alby, there is confusion with Citibank products.
If my memory serves me right. Citi Platinum a capped card earns $1.50 = 1.5 Citi Reward points = 1 KF point.

So to compare the Citi Select and Citi Platinum card

$100,000 spend with Select = 100,000 KF points and with Platimum = 66,666 KF points

Alby it is a point a dollar for Kris I was told, but if you call 3 times............Maybe 3 answers.
2 Citipoints equal one Kris point and this card earns 2 Citipoints for each dollar on the card.
I will read my letter next week for the bonus points and advise.

Knowing a little about how citi works, my guess is if you didn't opt for the $49 Qantas fee you would get nothing - as they advertise it as 60K QF points and not 60K citi points.

To be perfectly honest 60K and an unlimited 1:1 card more than justifies the first year annual fee. So long as you're churning 300k+ a year through it, I think it's a reasonable alternative to amex.

Guys
Just thought id let you all know that the initial 60k points CANNOT be converted to Qantas Frequent Flyers or any other type of airline rewards points. The points you earn can, but the initial 60k points are limited to Citibank rewards.

I just got off the phone with Citibank and they confirmed this. There goes my chance of getting a business class one way to Bangkok (60k points) for the cost a $250 annual fee!

ps sorry for posting this on 2 threads. Just thought it was worthwhile pointing out

The other current offer gets you 50K QFF points for $300.
