About to pack and head to MEL for the HKG > ICN flight, but cannot seem to break away from family calling about the Korean peninsula. I've been through a few risks in my time; north Pakistan, gunfight in Guatemala et al, but Dad got me thinking when he said have I an "escape plan" if something does happen in this crazy period we are in.

Got me thinking, no good going to ICN, far too close to the border, probably head south or start working down that way if you could as I'm sure many others are thinking that way. Cannot swim, so no use there. Told the wife and mum I would scout for a good bar and bunker down there!!!! (which did not go down too well) Personally not worried as been there too many times, but might be an interesting trip, might be nothing, but will keep you informed.

I'm heading to South Korea on Monday for 10 days. Fingers crossed all is ok.

I personally won't be rushing to South Korea atm....

i hope to be there in mid- June - if there is anything left. might have to spend my days sifting through the ashes ??

Having said that I'm transitting through Icn in July en route back to Syd from Jfk!

I will also be in Seoul for 5 days this week: keeping fingers crossed!

call me crazy but i have faith in the ruthless efficiency of south koreans in dealing with any belligerence from the north! that being said they're also pretty prepared in Seoul civil defence wise.

Though I think the North aren't really as powerful as they like to think it is quite a concern IMHO. We have a cruise through that whole area for 21 days in June/July so I am watching closely. (Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Honk Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Sth Korea & China)

I have a stopover in ICN in June and I am quite concerned with the situation at the moment. I hope its just big egos trying to show muscle, but who knows... :p Not much more I can do then monitor the situation and hope for the best.

How is the refrain "watching it closely" going to help?.

At least you won't know what happened if you are instantly evaporated.

If they're instantly evaporated they might as well be there enjoying the trip because those of us who are not there will not be far behind. :(

Arrived ICN, just like a normal trip, no extra police, army, etc. Talking to my Korean colleagues, the noisy neighbours are being their normal selves. Their only worry is scatterbrain Trump wanting to stamp his mark. No tension in the air and a very pleasant day in Seoul/Anyang. Cass is cold like normal and kimchi, well, is kimchi.....

Thanks for the update.

I just arrived in ICN 2 hours ago. I did have a few friends/family members tell me that I should reconsider coming, but I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary here so far. Looking forward to the next few days of my holiday!

Day 2 all OK, just a contrast from yesterday as its raining, bit like a drizzly Melbourne day. not much on the Korean newswires and for the colleagues, another start to the work week.

Just arrived here in Seoul myself a few hours ago, and like the above posters I can only say that if people are concerned it is not very obvious!

I also arrived here in Seoul today and agree with the above few comments. Pity about the weather today. I enjoyed the street food in myeondong though.
