Following on my three previous SWU giveaways (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ion-two-aa-evips-swus-61305.html#post1075878; http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ood-home/four-aa-swus-to-giveaway-63948.html; http://www.australianfrequentflyer....d-home/aa-swu-giveaway-competition-67594.html) I again have four American Airlines system-wide upgrades to giveaway.

No competition this time; just a straight giveaway. However, I would like to offer them, at least to begin with, to at least two people. That is, there are essentially two lots of two SWUs to giveaway such there will be a minimum of two recipients overall. If you're a solo traveler, by all means put your hand up for one. If you're interested, simply post in this thread whether you're after one or two.

Criteria
You must have been a member of AA for at least three months and have made at least 30 posts.

SWUs explained
Executive Platinum members on American Airlines receive eight (but from next year just four) SWUs per calendar year. They are used to confirm immediately (subject to availability) an upgrade from a paid ticket to the next cabin (ie. Y-J, J-F). They can be gifted.

See here for an explanation on AA's site.

Further information

  1. The flight you're looking to upgrade must be both marketed and operated by AA.
  2. Checking availability of an upgrade is difficult if you're not an AA EXP. Therefore, throw your hat in the ring and if you win I'll check availability. If it's there, it's yours; if there's no space you can chose to be waitlisted.
  3. Each SWU is valid for (I think) up to three flight segments on the same ticket. So, for example, if you're flying LAX-DFW-JFK-LHR, a single SWU will cover all flights.
  4. You must be travelling on a paid ticket (not an award).
  5. You'll get the most bang for your buck on AA's new A321 trans-con aircraft travelling between JFK and LAX and SFO, as well as the upgraded 777s but it's entirely up to you as to which flight(s) you hope to use the certificate on.
  6. Flights must be completed by 28 February 2017.
Note that if you are a recipient you will need to provide me, via PM, with the name(s) of the traveler(s) and the PNR as I need to contact AA to have the SWUs added to your reservation.

Any questions, please post here.

Very generous of you, Danger. I've been a previous recipient of your kind gesture.

This is a great offer Danger!

I'll bite.

I have a SYD-LAX return trip booked in J on AA (flight number and metal - paid). I certainly wouldn't say no to one!

Another generous offer from you !!
I've a flight from HKG - LAX (June 2017) with my mom and younger bro in Y, would love to be upgraded to J :-)
If only both of them to be upgraded only, i will be fine as well.. as long as they can enjoy the flight :-)

If you book the flights on AA can you still credit to QF and be eligible for the SWU.

Certainly. Have you checked to see if upgrades are available? If not, you can use ExpertFlyer. There needs to be A availability. Alternatively, you can PM me your flight details and I'll check.

Oh bugger. One very important aspect I forgot to mention. The flights must be completed by the end of this year. As I have no intention of requalifying for EXP they must be used by the time I drop from the once lofty tier. My apologies for not making this clear in the original post. I'll update it now.

Absolutely no issues with that.

Aah I didn't know this. No A availability in either direction unfortunately :(

I have one week in LA (SYD to LAX) in Nov.. how do i search for availability??

If you have ExpertFlyer use the Awards and Upgrades function on the left hand menu after logging in. Put in your AA flight details and after selecting AA as your airline from the dropdown list, check the box alongside First - Upgrade (A) or Business - Upgrade (C), whichever is your next highest cabin. The results will show whether or not seats are available.

If you don't have EF you can either PM me your flight details or simply post the date and flight number here and someone will check for you.

I have an AA itinerary with 5 segments and 3 of them have upgrade class availability.

This is a very generous offer!

Edit: actually I would ask for a single SWU as I just realised my friend's ticket contains multiple tickets in a single PNR...

Okay. We have something to build on. If you like PM me your name and PNR and I'll contact AA.

What a kind and generous offer. Wish I could have taken advantage but alas out flights are operated by Alaskan. Plus I'm sure there's someone who's got a transcon or int flight that can really get best value out of these.

I was wrong on this point. It doesn't help annielee but the SWUs can be added to travel up to and including 28 February 2017, not 31 December as I originally thought. I've updated the original post.

Planning to fly MCO-DFW-SMF(11.23am) on 7th Jan 2017, would appreciate an upgrade if still available, rest of family is booked in First but nil availability for saver award for me, ? SWU still available in this situation ie does it draw from same pool as saver awards.

it actually help :-) as i have a flight (on my own) from HKG to SFO end of Feb, and i just checked there are C seats available :-)

I'm not seeing any flights departing MCO at 11.23am or arriving SMF at 11.23am on 7 January. And, yes, SWUs come from the same bucket as saver awards.

Sounds good. Send me a PM with your details and I'll contact AA.
