Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

Looks like the 2016 offer starts on the 1st of July.
$350 on wine and $450 for the 30 bottle dual zone
$500 on wine and $1500 for the 110 bottle dual zone.

This value offer seems to have less value each year.

Thanks for the heads up. I assume a combination of overwhelming demand + declining AUD probably explains the lower value proposition.

Edit: The fridges look like better models than last year's. They're both dual-zone and the small one looks like it's front venting

Small still a freestanding model not suitable for built-in use...

I don't really buy the 'overwhelming demand' for wine fridges...it's a pretty specialised audience. It's quite simply a poor offer.

Given its at least the third year in a row that a similar offer has been made, many people must disagree that it's a poor offer.

Last year there was a backlog of months to get the fridges delivered - extra containers had to be shipped out from Europe. Demand was much greater than *expected*, hence they can put prices up.

It's quite simply a poor offer.

You're entitled to your opinion, however last year many more people voted with their wallets - I'll go with the majority view.

This is why I posted it before the deal started. Gives people some time to plan ahead. From memory there was a huge gap in delivery times for the people who got in first and those who got in at the end of the promotion.

The deal still has value. However, the fridge is smaller and pricier, may make a few people lean towards other options with a larger bottle count

Dual-zone fridges are always more expensive trhan single-zone comparable fridges, aren't they? I'm guessing the Vintec guys have figured that they're better off offering something different this year, even if it's at a different price point. The falling AUD is probably not helping either.

Edit:
Looking at the smaller fridge the dimensions look pretty much the same?
https://chooseyourcellar.tweglobal.com/vintecwinecellar.aspx (830 x 590 x 493mm - 4 shelves) (last year's offer - V30SGME)
vs.
https://serve-and-cellar.wineestatespromos.com/vintecwinecellar.aspx (830 x 587 x 493mm - 4 shelves).

I guess the internal divider in the dual-zone makes it less flexible and will reduce bottle count, but both are described by Vintec as "30 bottles" (though I have ~40 in my small one)

Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

It looks like the larger one is only single zone - same as last year. Quite a steep price rise for this offering from 2015.

Dual-zone according to the official website: https://serve-and-cellar.wineestatespromos.com/vintecwinecellar.aspx (click the 110-bottle link at the top of the page)

Here is the Australian manual: http://www.vintec.com.au/edit_content/products/user_manual_v110_v155_models.pdf 6-12 degrees for upper chamber, and 12-18 degrees for lower chamber. Au+NZ seems to get a different model to other parts of the world (according to the specs page at the end of the document)

Edit: I'm not sure what the text on the Vintec china website means - perhaps they mean you can set both zones to the same temp, effectively making it one zone?

'Single Temperature Zone for aging purpose'

Exactly. The offer 2 years ago was incredible, last year was still amazing value, and then there is this year...

To clarify my post above, I was implying that there is not a huge demand on wine fridges where this is still an amazing deal that is going to get scooped up. The only reason for the "demand" last year was because it got ozbargained by people who didn't even need or care about a wine fridge, it was simply such a good deal that anyone and everyone jumped aboard.

This offer requires you to spend more than you can buy the fridge for (granted, a decent amount of the spend is going on wine). However, depending on how much value you see in DM wine deals, some might see more value in waiting for a 20% deal from Good Guys.

How do you figure this? I can't find an Australian RRP for this model. They only seem to sell the single zone model here which has an RRP of $2800. It seems reasonable that the 2 zone model would have an RRP of $3000 as per the offer web site. The deal involves paying $2000 but getting $500 worth of wine, which if bought at DMs with discounted WISH cards and cash back brings the cost down further.

Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

So people who are looking into these deals, what are you going for to get your $500/$350. I'm tossing up between some Coldstream Hills, St Henri and 389. I haven't bought much from TWE in a while as I've been focusing on producers I see as better VFM.

My other option is just buying another fridge with a larger capacity outright, but delivery costs on a Kitchener to Brisbane is outrageous.

Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

Can anyone with similar size fridges comment on the power consumption of these?

Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

I just lodged my claim yesterday. We're building a new house, so how better to pretend to be wildly rich than to have a kitchen with a large built-in wine fridge!

I bought 4x Bin 389 (@~$56ea) and 4x St Henri (@~$72ea) from Dan Murphy's for $512, purchased online through cash rewards when they had 12% cash back which will bring it to a total of about $450 for wine + $1500 for fridge.

Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

Closes tonight (according to T&C). So order now if you're intending to, and haven't already.

Probably depends a lot on how much work they need to do. Once the bottles are cooled to the set temperature, the insulation should keep most of the ambient temperature out. Obviously if your ambient temp is 40C then there's more work to be done vs if your ambient temp is 20C. Opening the door will allow outside air in, and require additional cooling.

I saw someone post (using one of those electricity monitor devices) that a small fridge consumed about 1kw over 2 weeks.

Re: 2015 Vintec wine cellar offer

Well mine (the big one) was delivered yesterday and is a nice bit of kit. Filled it and let it chill overnight, with the top at 6deg for white/champagne and the bottom at 12.
Given they said it could be up to 16 weeks - I was pleasantly surprised to get the call last week!

Welcome aboard Beena, I have a couple now from 2 previous offers and am happy with both :)
