Air Australia (Strategic) (underwriters removing insolvency coverage from consumers)

Not sure how much to read into this, but just got an email from Covermore Insurance advising that their underwriters have (after careful consideration :? decided to remove Travel Insolvency coverage for Air Australia flights.

Struck me as interesting as its the first time I've seen a non-Chapter 11/Bankrupt Airline removed from their insolvency cover.

Thought it may be of interest.

This is the actual wording of the email, will post a copy of the revised PDS update when I receive it:

After a review of Strategic Airlines our re-insurer has withdrawn cover for the airline. This means there will be no Travel Services Provider Insolvency cover for Strategic Airlines for policies issued on or after 21st December.

IPP pulled the cover on 28 November (Airline News about Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI) products for the Travel Industry | IPP - International Passenger Protection), but can't find any real reason for their decisions.

On that note checking in at intl terminal. Is a passport actually required?

If it is only a domestic flight, then you only need a drivers licence or a passport for the D sticker.

Reading through it makes it sound like it's a bureaucratic bungle, rather than founded in genuine concerns.

Check-in at international terminal, as i assume there are no free counters in the DJ/Rex area, and head to the Virgin Domestic side... Looking at Melbourne Airport's website it leaves from around gate 15. Not really a gate 15 at the international terminal.

Interesting. We've been blocked from using them in my BFOD employee.... No reason given... Wonder if it's related.
