Just curious what others thoughts are on here, but it strikes me as kind of hypocritical that JQ happily used the QP at OOL for such a long time (granted most would have been QP members), but now that they're opening their own lounge at OOL on 15 June, QP members and WP/SG FF have no recipricol right of entry?

It doesn't bother me hugely, I don't fly out of OOL alot, I prefer to trek up to BNE and fly QF, but I do on occassion use JQ and it would be nice to have lounge access without having to pay.

Just wondering what other QP/WP/SG's think?

Very disapointed :(
I was hoping that QF Gold/Platinum got access, ok maybe now OWS/OWE as Jet* is not OW but the QF people should.

I plan to write a complaint of sorts to them see what they say.

I think i'll be doing the same, i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who thinks its ridiculous.

Not such a big deal while they've got their initial $5 entry off on (though god knows it means every bogan at OOL will be sitting in the lounge negating any benefit), but once they start charging $25/30, its pretty unreasonable to expect those who pay for QP or earn WP/SG to fork out extra.

OW or no OW, they're still an entity of QF, and if QF hadn't purged all of these routes and given them to JQ, there'd still be a QP at OOL and a very good reason to fly out of OOL instead of having to trek to BNE

It is unfortunate, but I guess JQ would expect to get paid by someone for the access. Maybe QF baulked at paying for QP members to go there. Maybe JQ didn't even ask.

Just one of the many side effects of the Jetstarification of the Qantas network.

I just went to the JQ website to check all this out as I sometimes fly from OOL. This is bizarre. The next thing you know, lounges operated by Qantaslink will have the same conditions. I really do feel the QP members and SG and WP flying with JQ should still have access - after all, these people have paid more than their $5 one way or another. The really interesting thing I found in the FAQ was this:

FAQ for Gold Coast Lounge

Q. Where will the new Gold Coast Lounge open?
A. Gold Coast Airport, Gold Coast QLD.

I really hope they've got that right. I would hate to think that the new Gold Coast lounge would open at Avalon:!:

Another perspective.
At $20 or $25 entry, how many young male sporting groups would think great, get to OOL airport about 2 hours early, pay your money and spend the next few hours getting pxx_ed. Much cheaper than beers at the nearby tavern. What sort of atmosphere would that create.

... I just don't like it .

I see it as a devaluation of the Qantas Frequent Flyer tiers and Qantas Club. Once again, Jetstar is disowning "Qantas" for their own benefit. However, I still see the Jetstar logo on the Qantas website, and can even book my Jetstar flights there.

I would expect access, and plan to write a complaint of sorts as well.

even though they've said it will be the only lounge.

Yeah right.

I'm actually not sure if the average JQ customer would stump up $25 for a lounge entry...especially on such a leisure route... Will be interesting to see how it goes - they could be forced to turn to QF to assist funnelling some premium pax their way...

A $25 entrance fee at OOL J* club would seem massive compared to the 2 cent return fare I have there next year.

Exactly. I'll give them some time to rest once they've taken over NZ, but those QP's will be closing and I expect they'll want to convert them fast.

They may close the Domesic QP in NZ but if they do I will have no reason to choose Jetstar and may as well fly NZ or DJ when flying in NZ.
As am from Australia I don't get points unless Jetflex airfare.

It is the dumbest move ever.

With the Tabua Lounge Qantas Gold and Platinum get access even if flying Air Pacific, and Qantas don't even own 50% of Air Pacific and they own 100% of Jetstar.

Definately! And that might even extend to trans-tasman crossing too...
