Apologies in advance if I've put this in the wrong room.
Back in July I had my first emergency landing of my flying (as a passenger) career in Tel Aviv. It was also my first 747 flight which was a bit of a let down after I'd grown up considering it as my 'favourite plane'.
About 30 mins out of Tel Aviv, while flying up the Red Sea, the captain of the El Al 747-400 (LY082 from BKK) came over the PA and announced that there was a minor issue with one of the wheels and that we would be met by the fire brigade on landing.
In the end, we landed and after a brief stay off in the middle of no where (where I assume the wheels were inspected), we went to the terminal and disembarked.
I've uploaded some footage I took onto youtube:

Nice one - the closest I've come is an aborted take-off on an old CX 747 after an engine failed on the runway, the hours on the tarmac were such a pain in First!

Much of a bang/smoke/flame?
Poor you... more wine... ;)

Quite a flotilla following along.

What did you take the footage on?

Matt

I think you meant "pour you...more wine" ;) hehe

Sounds like....either a tyre let go on the departure from BKK, or one slowly went down during the flight. In either case, it's basically a non event, though the runway would need inspection after landing, and you wouldn't taxi until you'd had things inspected.

lol - it was a bit like that, I had an obsession with Campari at the time and was on a status run from TPE-HKG-MNL-HKG in the one day. Needless to say I slept well on the MNL-HKG sector after the oustanding PH based CX crew allowed me to use the F cabin on the return also :) :)

that's one experience I don't want to take, I can imagine the faces of passengers when the pilot told of the "minor issue". Didn't you have any passengers giving over the top reaction? Though it was a non-event still some do get panicky..

I take it there were no restrictions on using electronic devices during the landing?

I didn't hear or see any stressing. Although I was still somewhat spaced out by the sleeping tablets I'd taken.

Nope I broke the regulations and used the camera, which interfered with the aircraft's controls (as happens so often), thus causing the plane to crash killing us all. ;)

Many airlines did not consider cameras as 'electronic devices', and now, in many cases, all devices are allowed anyway, as long as they are in 'flight mode', which simply means any transmitters are turned off.

I'm sure I recalled seeing cameras (with big crosses through them) on those safety cards years ago but I haven't looked closely at those for years (my bad). Some cameras, mine included, have inbuilt wifi although I always keep that off to save the batteries.

We all know as soon as the FA sit down, these devices come out covertly :-) and have done for many years
