A message from a friend who is on QF19 SYD-MNL today, telling me that the flight has been diverted to Cairns due to a sick baby on board. Engineers are now checking the aircraft after what he described as a "heavy" landing. Likely the Captain (Captain Cook, I believe) dumped just enough fuel to get down to MLW so the enginering is probably precautionary only.
My friend praised both the crew for their professional conduct with passengers being kept informed, and the passengers for their courtesy and patience: concern only for the wellbeing of the child with no complaints about any inconvenience.
Here's hoping the child is ok.
FlightAware shows the aircraft still in Cairns at time of posting.

TheEmu, great information so thank you. There is a standalone thread for General Qantas cancellations and delays so perhaps the moderators may wish to place this into that thread. Up to them of course.
