Bag wrap at SYD

This question comes up from time to time....

A new bag wrap service has been installed, replacing the previous one run by SmartCarte.

Cost is $15 per bag.

Saw a location near checkin counters H (near Air NZ) and counters D (near QF).

It can, but also depends what you want to put in your bag. It won't stop anyone but is a deterrent. (I've never used it and don't even lock my bags)

I don't think it's even as fancy as shrink wrap is it? I thought it was just some heavy duty cling film.

I've only ever wrapped my golf clubs with a cheap roll of cling wrap, and that was only before I got my travel cover.

Mmm, stupid?
what about the tampering that occurs in say some European airports?
while it may seem stupid to some, it would be immedeatly obvious to me that my bag had been tampered with if the wrap was missing.
That being said, I have'nt wrapped any of my bags

Never plastic wrapped; sometimes remember to plastic cable-tie; always photograph contents as-packed.

I have, once at BNE with my luggage going to West Africa. Only cost $11 and protected the bag really well from bumps and scrapes by turning it into a solid, compacted duffel bag. Plastic is not shrink wrap but is stretched during the wrapping is is hard to get off. They actually included a small safety cutter under the label to help with removal.
Was going to do it coming back from Sierra Leone but they wanted $US25 and I wonder if the wrapping (incorrectly in my case) makes it look like the bag and it's contents are valuable.

Saw the same machine at Changi terminal 1 last night, same price SGD15, but the plastic was lime green. I was thinking how expensive it seemed. Saw several people using it.

We just use cable ties when travelling os.
Cheap, easy and you can carry lots of extras for each stage of the journey.

There never was a Smartecarte service for bag wrapping. They did strapping but never wrapping. Secure bag is an Italian company.

Ah you're right... I remember now. I never used the service, but walked past it most days and it's only when I read your post that I realised it wasn't wrapping... only strapping, as you say. They also used to do bag weighing.. which I never really understood why people just didn't go use the scales at an empty checkin area... and more recently, SYD has put out scales to use near the self-checkin kiosks.

I had to read and reread this a couple of time before I realised you weren't from Snowtown.

Assuming you weren't really planning to decapitate your friend you would probably asphyxiate them anyway because the cling wrap would seriously constrict their breathing.

I do like the concept though, just practice on an acquaintance. ;-)

Now that I have re-read this; it seems very poorly written on my part.

As you have stated, I meant a living person being wrapped from shoulders to their toes for a gag!

Wonder if I could put a sandwich in that machine some how?
