Based on this QF application, Qantas should be operating 3 x weekly flights to YVR by March. Why has this not been announced yet?

Note Qantas is required to fully utilise the allocation by 31 March each year but:

3.5 Qantas has requested the determination allow the capacity to be used by either Qantas or another Australian carrier which

is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qantas, including for joint services, and for any wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group to provide joint services with Qantas.

So they could use JQ instead of QF

Or they might end up doing 2-3 flights every few months timed with "busy periods".
Parts of it can also be used for freight at 10 tons = 40 seats.

Maybe they could do a tag up from LAX. LAX-YVR wouldn't be subject to the US domestic restrictions if they are allowed to do so. (The US agreement says Australian carriers can operate 5th freedom flights from US airports to anywhere. The Canadian agreement says only from Honolulu, Fiji, Tahiti and San Francisco).

Not all aircraft are created equal. The range will vary depending upon the weight that you've purchased, the cabin configuration, and the exact engine model.

Thinking about it, "range fully loaded", is a potentially misleading term. Presumably it means at maximum take off weight, but does it mean that the aircraft is simultaneously at maximum zero fuel weight?

The JQ website lists their 788 range as 10,186 km (but other stats [engine/MTOW] match the wiki/boeing lists)

RooFlyer or anyone who has taken up the YVR-SYD/SYD-YVR flights...how many points did you get for each leg?
I recently did YVR-SYD in Econ (Q) and only received 4000, then another 4000 status bonus for a total of 8000. Doesn't seem right to me for such a long flight. My usual LAX-SYD gets me 6750 x 2 for points and status bonus.
I cant use the point calculator now as the dates have passed and wont let you click historical dates.
Any help be greatly appreciated!!

Overall the flight was good, I flew on the 15th Jan arriving 17th Jan. The check in staff at YVR are extremely helpful and nice. CX lounge was extremely quiet and not much in there, even in the First area. I should've walked down to BA.
Waited for over an hour in Sydney for our bags as there was some problem getting them out of the plane. Communication only came after 45min of waiting.
I like flying, so for me, I'm happy doing the YVR-LAX-SYD trips.

QF is using the plaza premium lounge which is not a bad lounge at all, certainly far better than CX. The plaza premium is also the only lounge at YVR that has showers if you value one before a long haul.

I did not know that! Damn, as I walked past I checked to see what airlines or credit card partners it was accepting.
Shame the check-in staff didn't mention anything.

Sure have. See this thread. The YVR route gets lumped into 'other long haul' which, surprise, surprise, earns less than east-coast to LAX!

Wow I wish I researched that a bit better before booking. Otherwise I would've rather have tried the new 1st Lounge in TBIT and the couple thousand extra points plus get into Syd earlier.

Hope they rectify this if they are going to make this a permanent seasonal service

I did my bit to make the trial worthwhile: trip report (rather brief), and a bit of "what to do in Vancouver" here (fabulous city, even in winter). Going direct to YVR, rather than via LAX was better personally, and business-travel-wise.

Unfortunately the current batch of flights back to Oz has ended, so its LAX for me going back.
