Worst airports one should avoid

Lol... Heathorw is described as having four shopping malls that are smashed together. It actually is four shopping malls that happen to have some gates attached :p.

In terms of airports to avoid... I'd happily say just about any US airport for foreigners. Immigration is almost unbearable.

US airports have changed very much for the better. This year have had international arrivals into LAX,ORD.MIA.The longest time from plane door opening to the kerb was 20 minutes.

SYD is significantly worse than LHR in my experience.
Though on Friday arriving in the morning peak time and buying some duty free it was 25 minutes from door opening to being at the avis desk.
It took a lot longer today arriving at BNE domestic.

I take it those were domestic flights?

Those international flights take much longer with border control checks.

What a difference a day makes!!!! On Saturday it was a 35 minute queue at customs, and a delightful 9 minute hold up in the bus as we waited for aircraft. There is nothing about SYD that would not benefit from a large comet hitting it......followed by a larger one just in case. :p

Meanwhile at LHR T5 it is typically 20 minutes from arrival at the gate to picking the rental car up at AVIS. Going the other way it is next to no time through fast track at the South end to entering the CCR. Can you imagine clearing security and walking straight into the lounge? Oh what joy. :)

Read the post again. Those were all international arrivals on QF,JL and AA respectively.

But of course dear Tony us convicts get treated a little more harshly.Being strip searched turned me off LHR for life.
The other fact that always seems to slip the Brits mind is that all those convicts came from the Old Dart.Definitely a place to avoid.:p;)

I fear it may have been the dodgy golf shorts that did for you!! :p

Seriously the article says to avoid Paris Beauvais Tille because the staff are "difficult to converse or hold a conversation with" because "they are sometimes unable to talk in English".
Leaving aside the author's own clearly inadequate grasp of English, I'm sure it is quite easy to talk to the staff IN FRENCH because L'Aéroport Beauvais-Tillé is IN FRANCE where people SPEAK FRENCH.
The airport isn't even in Paris! It is a regional airport in Picardy about 85 km from Paris. Some carriers deceptively call it "Paris-Beauvais-Tille" as a marketing exercise.
You can't expect everyone in every airport in the world to speak English. I've had to resort to my fairly basic Spanish in Madrid even though that is a major international airport!
As for airports to avoid I would put Nice Côte D'Azur on the list. Depending on which airline you are flying with you can end up at one of several widely separated terminals with poor transport between them and services such as hire cars distributed unevenly across them.

Helsinki is dire past emigration - reminded me of the Tiger terminal at OOL. One overpriced cafe and some duty free, that's it.

Cmn, Vfa, Lim come to mind...

MNL would be the only one on my list but even then I wouldn't avoid it if it served me some purpose.

Don't quite the understand the general consensus re avoiding LHR and LAX. I have been to both. I wouldn't avoid either.

LHR can be PITA for connections between terminals and security checks.
I would add CDG as an airport to avoid in EU.

How would you avoid CDG?
Do you prefer ORY?

And please don't even suggest avoiding Paris!
That is simply unthinkable!

If travelling to Europe on award booking (especially in premium cabin), I try to avoid travelling back from LHR (unless transiting). To avoid the Air Passenger Duty.

Strictly speaking about US airports I also agree with the comments they are getting better, but you still do get shocking examples. Twice through MIA this year on the exact same flight, once on a weekday an once on a Sunday. Kerbside in under 30 minutes on the Sunday while the weekday was over 2 hours.
