I'll be making the move up to Brisbane for work shortly, however every weekend I plan to fly back to Sydney. (BNE-SYD Friday night, then SYD-BNE Sunday night).

Of course the problem with this is I'm trying to cut back on it costing me every cent I have, and parking at the airport is going to hurt that. If I were in Sydney, I'd just park in High St Mascot and walk to the terminal, however I can't seem to find anywhere close to BNE where one could park their car.

Anyone have any suggestions to a hidden parking place within walking distance, or isn't it possible up there?

Not really possible in Brisbane AFAIK. All of the airport land is private land, and I can't think of anywhere walkable from the terminals where you would be allowed to park.

Potentially you could park at the DFO area and catch the shuttle to the International Airport, and terminal transfer to domestic, but I somehow think that's a recipe for a car being towed...

There are a few off-airport parking places, eg:

Brisbane Airport Parking

which should cost a lot less than leaving cars at the airport. I can't recommend any. Do a Google search for "airport parking brisbane" or similar.

Agree. Catch the train, make the plane. Airtrain.

It's seriously easy and good value. The only reservation i'd have is if you were arriving back very late sunday nights, otherwise if it's monday AM return, just do the train.

About the nearest nice suburb is Hendra, well about 15 years ago Gordon St was V nice and quiet friendly etc. You could check for a location around there and get a taxi. But Yellowcab.com.au estimates the fare at $17.

Probably sky train is the best bet. Or you could check the parking restrictions at the Kingsford Smith memorial - on the left, partially hidden behind trees just before you get to the domestic terminal. edit3: at international terminal round about.

Edit: hang on I just remembered Pinkenba, that be closer than Hendra because you can cut across via Lomandra Drive. But it's not much shorter than from Hendra, you'd be loucky to get a cab out there and you'd have to direct the driver as the turn onto Lomandra Dr is a bit dodgy - edit2: Just check google earth it may not be dodgy anymore

Thanks. The train sounds ok, the only issue being I'd have to be back by 19:59 on a Sunday which means gettin the 18:05 QF flight from SYD which is a little earlier than I'd hoped. Might just have to do it though.

There's definately nowhere near the airport you can park and walk to the terminal, it's all airport land and airport drive is several km's long.

I use Andrews Airport Parking alot..of site, the other side of the M1, reasonable rates, 24hrs and they'll drop you off and pick you up at the terminal.
2 days outdoor parking with them will set you back $27, so its pretty competitive and their service is rather good.

Theres several other companies right near there also BAP, Priority etc but Andrews has always been the best to deal with.

The airtrains okay, but if you're going further than the city you can get some seedy types on there and I always found it inconvenient flying in at night time.

When you are coming in on Sunday at an early time, the airtrain would be good, if you can find safe parking for your car, otherwise I agree with Andrews. Outdoor parking for $18 for the first 24 hours and then $4 per day after that. This includes their free shuttle to/from the airport. For safety, speed and convenience, I'd pay the money.

Imagine the difference between getting off the plane, collecting baggage, and then:

getting to the airtrain, traveling to the station near where your car is parked, hoping your car is still there.

getting the shuttle to your car (usually the keys are in the car because they know you are coming & you have prepaid) and you just get in and go.

Perhaps a fellow worker needs a car for the weekend, only condition, drop me at the airport and pick me up when I get back.

You can forget the Kingsford Smith memorial - limit is 30 minutes, and you are supposed to be "visiting" the memorial. Security comes and moves on those in the No Standing area at busy times.

Does however, make a good spot to wait in the car if you need to pick someone up.

Good luck.

Who is paying for the airfares? If you are paying for them out of your own pocket the first QF flight BNE-SYD on a Friday evening that has red e-deal availability is QF555 and is scheduled to depart at 7:45pm and has not been departing anywhere near this time since I have started commuting in early July.

The airtrain is a good option but I would book a flight that is scheduled to arrive in BNE no later than 7:15pm especially if you have checked luggage. With the delayed departure and arrival of QF542 yesterday evening and then further delays waiting for luggage I only had 7 minutes to spare before the last airtrain departure of the night.

If you miss the airtrain there is a coach service which meets every flight and can take you to most hotels in the CBD for $12.

Compared to the ~$40 taxi fare to CBD at the moment, a little wandering will save quite a bit.

What you save in money you lose in sanity being taken on a tour of every hotel in the CBD!!:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Don't forget the detours to Hamilton (airport) hotels, and B&B's/Long term units in the likes of the Valley and Spring Hill.

The 'tour' depends on the mix of passengers though :)

Though it often takes quite a while to reach any specific hotel :!:
Yes but it certainly beats the $40+ for a taxi. If money is not an issue then it is probably not worth waiting for the coach service.

That would depend on which hotel one is staying and the route taken by the coach on that particular service! ;)

I did the shared coach transfer from BNE to my home on the Gold Coast a few years ago (during a moment of weakness), it only took for 4+ hrs to get home, needless to say i've never done a shared transfer since anywhere!

Now if JohnK & danielribo could get their acts together they could possibly share a cab at a reasonable cost each.
