A couple of articles from yesterday that give a glimpse at the new JQ A321neos.
Bit of shoddy journalism though with one article stating that all 18 will be received in August 2020 whilst another article states 1 will be received in August, another by Christmas and the remainder by the end of 2022.

Still the seats looks horrendous and I’m not much a fan of the current slimline outside of short hops.

There was talk of the 321s having a 'business' cabin. Maybe they will install those before the international routes. Flat beds would be nice, but even standard domestic J would be good.

The A321 is a game changer as it can connect Aussie with Asia up to around 15-20 % cost improvement. Why run a heavier widebody when it is not necessary. Have a look at PAL's ex bne which even has lie flat business seats. The advantage Qantas has is that it can, has and no doubt will shuffle the planes around and between Jetstar and the parent on domestic/international as it seems necessary.

If the route exceeds the range of a 737, and the market doesn't exist for A330/B787, they may as well give the route to Jetstar. Qantas might hold out for the 797.

You've also got to consider that the crew are employed by the separate airlines - there are no Qantas Group pilots or cabin crew. Jetstar are generally employed on much less favourable conditions - there would be an absolute outcry in the unions if they started using Jetstar crew to fly mainline aircraft. Whilst they have their own crews for the B787s, both airlines have (or plan to have) large enough numbers to sustain their own crew bases. Even if QF flew A321s I don't think they'd have critical mass - unless mainline converts to A32X instead of B73X.

QF already has one - B737-800. It can fly SYD-DPS which is longer than DRW-HKG.

The article seems to have ommitted any mention of the new technology which will prevent delays and cancellations.

My friend flew J* for the first time last weekend to meet me in MEL.
His 90 minute flight was delayed 90 minutes.
They made him gate check his one carry on which is a completely unambiguously acceptable (airline issue) carry on.
On arrival he observed "Oh my god I see why you refuse to fly jetstar - all this time I thought you were just being precious!".

That's the media for you. Jetstar said that they'd be first with the A321 LR.

That's correct in this region.
NZ has 321neo. Jetstar will get the 321neoLR.
And then from 2024 you've also got the 321neoXLR coming to Jetstar and possibly Qantas.

The LR has increased MTOW and auxillary tanks.
The XLR will have further increased MTOW, strengthened landing gear and a new rear centre tank.

321neoLR has only started being delivered this year with Arkia, Norwegian, TAP Air Portugal, Air Transat, Aer Lingus, Air Astana, Air Arabia and Azores Airlines getting deliveries ahead of Jetstar.

Can't judge an airline on a single delay.
My first JQ flight (MEL-SIN) was delayed 7 hours, and I missed a Jetstar Asia 3K connection.
Since then I've taken 10+ JQ, 3K, GK (Japan) flights with all being on time.

I just wonder if the purchase of newer more fuel efficient aircraft might open more holiday destinations, and indeed open many Australian's to the possibility that a wider world exists than just Bali and coughet.

For example, whilst Scandinavian carriers serve KBV (Krabi, Thailand), no services from Australia serve KBV, which is as much as 2 hrs shorter, from east coast of Australia vs say Oslo or Stockholm. Off the top of my head, Krabi, Danang, Kalibo (Boracay) and even Lombok could all be interesting destinations. I guess though we should be thankful that a certain element of holiday maker is concentrated in Kuta (Bali) and Patong (coughet) rather than infecting other tropical destinations.
