Come Tuesday, I’m heading north again for a couple of weeks. This time, it’s a 4WD tag-along to Rudall River/Karlamilyi National Park, WA’s largest NP (Karlamilyi National Park - Wikipedia, Karlamilyi National Park, WA - Hema Maps).

It’s here:

The meeting point is Newman on Wednesday afternoon, kicking off to the park on Thursday morning and re-emerging at Marble Bar 11 days later. Google Maps does not have any coverage of the park.

I’ll go as far as Cue (c. 650km) on Tuesday and complete the run into Newman (c. 550km) on Wednesday.

The trip into the park is totally off-grid, so fuel for around 1100km needs to be carried, plus water and provisions for the duration.

Obviously, no posting once in the park. I’ll leave completing the TR until return.

I wonder what the world will look like when I re-emerge? 😜

Gaaahhh! I must have put a hex on this.

The tag-along leader contacted me a short time ago saying he was advised just this morning that Rudall River/Karlamilyi NP has been closed because of Covid - even though we are not going near the TO communities.

I had the option to pull out but I've opted for the plan B to Carawine Gorge (Carawine Gorge) and Meentheena Vietnam Veterans' Retreat (https://www.vrwa-meentheena.org/; Meentheena Veterans Retreat | Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia).

It will still get me out bush and into some warmth.

Oh well, hopefully they will do a tag-along to Rudall River/Karalmilyi NP next year.

Take some pics for me as you go through my former home - Mt Magnet. Just the main drag - the Grand Hotel holds some memories 😊.

Mt Magnet is bustling - I did pass through there last year after Mt Augustus (A circuit around the WA mid-west).

I did some work that took me through that area back in about 1978. Mt Magnet had declined to almost a ghost town when the price of gold collapsed and Hill 50 mine went onto C & M (Hill 50 Gold Mine - Wikipedia).

Being the stripling that you are, your stint there was after that when WMC cranked it up again.
