In an aftermarket ASX announcement, Qantas followed the lead set by rival Virgin Australia earlier this week and said it would reduce domestic capacity from 102 per cent of pre-COVID-19 levels to 70 per cent until April.

Are you sure your first paragraph is correct?

VAd is cutting its flight numbers by 25 per cent; QFd and JQd by 'almost a third', which implies a greater reduction than VAd.

No. I do not believe so. The offers that went out with TP's for DSC's (I have about 8 lol) should still get them I should think. it would be pretty bad if they didn't.

Having said that I flew over a week ago on one and have not gotten DSC but well I am not going to panic just yet about that.. given it's QF

but no they would not ditch those already given. It was just new ones being offered were not coming with the offers it seems.

The family were booked on the QF520 1105am SYD-BNE service on the 20/1. QF cancelled the flight overnight and the group of 6 were moved to the later 1205pm service. A quick phone call and this was changed to the earlier 0805am flight.

I think it is fair and reasonable for QF and other carriers, within reason, to move passengers to maximise aircraft utilisation while also managing a reduction in availability of current tech and cabin crew. I could see where the airlines and various support services would, like many other industries, be challenged in keeping up with the required staffing levels.

The removal of the need for a negative RAT and a QLD travel pass for domestic arrivals from this weekend may influence the number of flight cancellations.

This traveller is in the process of pushing back a RTW from Feb which included 4 QF sectors, 2 DOM and 2 INT but its not because I'm spooked but more the continual spooking of Governments and Airlines such that I cannot commit that changing boarding/border requirements can be met by myself.

If Omicron had not spooked the Governments and Airlines then I'd gladly have maintained the original schedule.

I'm sure the airlines would be happy to fly if the passengers were there. But fractional loads, caused by panicky politicians and constantly variable requirements, do not make for a stable operating environment.

If only we could all have access to that ‘quick call’. It’s painful when QF cancels your flights and then you have to wait hours on the phone to get through to someone.

My 'fair and reasonable' attitude has nothing to do with priority access to the QF contact centre.

QF, like other airlines, has a responsibility to balance the conflicting imperatives of safety and profitability. I think it is "fair and reasonable" that QF, or for that matter any other airline, reduce flight schedules during Omicron and holiday weeks to ensure they have enough staff to provide a safe and economic operation.
