Best way to get some points

Hi Everyone, I've done a search, but it's a bit complex.

I've found an international route I need to fly in about 6 months time, and I can fly through OneWorld or Star Alliance (or WestJet) and they are all about the same price, $2500 AUD once I add baggage (2 adults 1 child)

I checked QFF rewards and I can get the flight for only 90,000 points, which is a value of about 2.7c per point. I think this is pretty good, flying WestJet and fees are only about $60 total.

Problem is I only have 55k points, and I have a few flights it's possible to use them on coming up for decent value also. (1.9c per point value)

I've created a small spreadsheet and the best values I can find are
- Credit Card (not sure I can get one being out of the country etc),
- Health insurance (which is completely pointless, but I can sign up, pay for 2 months @ $1650 and receive 112k points then cancel it, this is 1.45c per point cost.
- Otherwise I can buy wine on QFF and get points at about 2c per point cost.

These are what I can find off the top of my head, are there any other ways to do this? Can I buy points on American Airlines or British Airways or Air Canada to do this in a better way?

Maybe Black Friday sales?

Help!

Woolworths gift card promotions are pretty good if you can get a 10x or 20x promotion. You need to be a Woolworths Everyday Reward member. They can boost your points up to 10K per day for the time of the promotion, you just have to watch the catalogues for when they come up. You said you are out of country, so that may not work for you.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

One thing to be mindful of is that reward seats can be taken at any time by someone else.

Generally if you see a good reward you need to book it immediately, you cant guarantee that it will still be there tomorrow, let alone by the time you earn the extra points.

Perhaps consider cash fare for this year and save those points for another trip next year when you already have the points to hand.

As a bit of an aside - I recently booked Westjet economy reward flights through QFF, and despite it clearly stating a number of times during booking that baggage was included, it did not include any when checking QF Manage My Booking or on the Westjet website. These were Canada to USA flights FWIW.

I did manage to get them refunded eventually, but just something to be wary of.

That is only useful if you are in Australia - the OP is overseas.
Though they mention that as an option they're considering in their first post.

Hard to give solid advice without knowing where they are. If based in North America, transfer of credit card points to BA/CX/QF might be an option.

Nothing preventing OP from delivering the wine to a friend/family/acquaintance located in Australia.

Unless you are saying that Qantas Wine does not accept orders from overseas IP addresses and OP cannot order any whilst overseas.

You can buy AA & BA points. People rarely do so outside of sales/offers.

It's the kind of thing you might do if you were a few thousand points short of a great redemption and you want to leverage the value of the points you already have - but it's probably not good value when you're looking to buy the whole fare in points. BA does offer an Avios subscription that comes in at about 2c per Avios, but you have to wait a year for your Avios to trickle through in monthly instalments. It used to be nearer 1.7c per Avios but they put the price up and the Australian dollar continues to fall. That was almost tempting (Avios gives you access to the QR network) but not quite. I have no idea about AA points but I doubt they would be better value.
