QP access when flying MEL-LAX on AA

Yes, the flight number would be shown on the BP, and ticket. But that indicates that you only need to show the QP card to gain access. So they aren't going to see the BP, and if it is only a cursory look at the QP card they might not check the ticket.

But as Serfty quoted:

When you arrive at a lounge, show your Qantas Club card, or your Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer card with your ticket or boarding pass
In this case, how would they know what flight number your travelling on?

Showing just the card is not an option...

OK firstly, for the pedants, the OP is definitely not guaranteed access. But nothing is guaranteed in the world we live in, so what is the probability of accessing the lounge? It sounds like there is a good chance (90%) that the OP will be able to get in with AA codeshare on QF 94 metal.

To be really pedantic... even if T&C's state you are guaranteed, there could be a 0.01% chance of not getting access , perhaps the lounge might be closed on any given day due to fire/flood/other reasons .. .once at WLG, the international Koru Club was closed due to fire earlier in the week and no-one had access!!

Another comment - what happens if OP went to the QP/AC in T4 and asked for the BP to be reprinted on QF stock, would it list the AA number or the QF number? Or have they stopped doing that now (been a while since I have passed through LAX).

The debate continues as people keep telling the OP that they are ENTITLED to access which is different to being given access.

The OP could legitimately be refused access but could be lucky enough to gain acess - and it seems that it is likely that they will be given access.

I have gained access to the Flagship lounge at T4 when I was not entitled to gain access so I would not expect to get access every time.

I am intrigued given that there are many complaints about QPs being overcrowded and even the TBIT lounge being small, why people are happy to advocate someone using a service to which they aren't entitled and have not paid.

This is not an attack on the OP just an observation.

Tis cool... I would much rather fly QF... it would be exactly the same metal but the interviewer's workplace has a "Fly America" policy... What I wanted to know is how this affects me as a QC member (only PS... SG would not be a problem I assume...) I dont even know... they may end up flying me J but I would not count on it...

I find that they always swipe your BP, so likely to notice then.

The details on the BP wouldn't change, just the card it is printed on; so would still show the AA flight number.

Are we losing another scientist to Uncle Sam?
Looking likely... for the next few years at least..

I do want to come back when my daughter enters high school but the (potential) offer these guys are putting on the table just cant be matched domestically...

Mind you, if they fly me for the interview in economy in Delta/United with no lounge access it will be less likely :D

Play hard to get  A couple of friends who're now working in London and Ho Chi Minh city did just that. The new employers tempted them by paying for a house for their entire assignment.

Re flying Delta/United, I did LAX-JFK with Delta last year and was only given free water (*gigs*) - and no lounge access sucked big time. I was amazed to know that the little 737 aircraft stopped over in JFK then enrouted to MAN.

Well bookings have been made, and yes it is With AA rather than QF..

So is the MEL lounge a joint AC/QP, will I have issues getting access to that (hopefully checking in at MEL at the J counter (silver) my BP will have a QF number and QC status on it!))

The booking is showing up in my QFF profile... I was able to select my MEL-LAX and LAX-MEL seats (80k on a380 Yay!)

Plan for ORD-LAX-MEL is to use the T4 A/C to have a shower and a quick beer and then head to TBIT and see if I can access the QP there... and if not I find a beverage distribution point in TBIT and *gulp* pay!

Course, you could use it to get OW Sapphire status by doing a Platinum challenge which might well be worthwhile especially if you are going to end up living in the US ( assuming you accept the position )

The MEL lounge is a Qantas Club lounge . Given that you are departing on a Qantas operated flight , I would be surprised if they did not permit access

Rule 10.1 states

Qantas Club Members are entitled to access The Qantas Club lounge in the departure port when the Member's next onward flight on that day is with Qantas, a QantasLink or Jetstar service.

Your onward flight is a Qantas service ; it does not state that it has to be a Qantas marketed flight

I had a brief search, but what exactly is Platinum challenge?

Yes... once living in the US I will probably switch to AA FFP... The job will involve a bit of domestic travel... and some international...

I hate to labour the lounge access rules point again but:

For access to the international business lounge:

Member and 1 guest can access lounge on day of departure.+

+next onward flight that day must be on a Qantas, British Airways or Jetstar flight number.

Oh well... I just have to hope they print QF93 on the tix... Or I can check in online at qf.com and hope that works!

Which conflicts with the Terms and Conditions
