They've oversold our cruise! And we got the offer!

I'm not a cruiser @Pushka (unless you count something from the '70's) so initially refunds sounded appealing at post#1.
But reading further that you snagged a great deal, are all organised with flights, tours and hotels etc, reckon you will ignore the options and stay as booked.

Can't wait for the TR!

There isn’t a $12000 difference between balcony and oceanview. That’s just a refund value for us in either 1 2 or 3. Actually because the cruise was selling so well very early the basic balconies became more expensive than ours and oceanview cabins were selling close to what we paid.
Oh I realise, but there is a 12k difference now. That is how I'd look at it anyway.

I wonder if acceptance for that option is based on the size of non-cancellable expenses that one submits
I'm sure AI is all over the various options to minise risk, whether that be financial or reputation. I'm quite fascinated to get data points from the FB group. The outright cancellations were needed to get the ball rolling so they are being done first.

Hi @Pushka, just seeing what the final decision was. Hope you enjoy the cruise.
Nice memory. Well. We didn’t do Number 3. Cancel. We thought Number 2 was a pathetic offer. BUT - we did do Number 1. We will know by end of tomorrow the outcome 😂. But I think there won’t be any change. We are currently enjoying Tokyo!

Let us know if it happens. And enjoy Tokyo...vibrant city!

Not what I was expecting, but I can see the appeal. Good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure you will enjoy the cruise either way.

So. Lets close this off. This morning was the time we would find out.

Did I mention that celebrity runs a Move up offer, where you can place a bid for a higher level category. This was a balcony - plus sold out cruise, hence the original email so none of this made any sense. Yesterday morning I thought why not, and put in the minimum allowed bid for a cabin upgrade, at a price which was cheaper than the premium beverage package I'd bought. And around $10000 less than if I'd bought in our case, a basic suite outright.

So we have two things in play. I had no idea if one countered the other.

So this morning I received the email from celebrity. It was.........the UPGRADE!

But now, I had to explain all this to MrP. His head is still spinning. He just says he trusts me so he'll go with it. 😂.

So I've cancelled the premium drinks package, that refund will be in the credit card by Thursday. The payment for the upgrade has already been processed. While this suite doesn't come with the drinks package, there is a suite bar where all drinks are free, premium alcohol etc. And can be taken back to the cabin and into various areas. Plus an indoor lounge and an outside relaxation lounge which is new.

So, an interesting outcome. Turns out they only needed one cancellation. And it clearly wasn't a full ship as I know of three groups who got an unpgrade this morning. And we have a large balcony. 🤭

So presumably the travel agents all got their clients on (who didn't want to cancel)
Did too many people take up the Ocean view option or do you think there were some last minute cancellation?
Gosh. I can’t work it out. The TA people would have their cabins. Perhaps the suites weren’t sold out but TA had blocked them? I only know of one outright cancel and they were in a cabin like ours.

What sort of cabin do you have now, with the upgrade?
Called a sky suite. Butler. 😂. Haven’t told MrP that bit. 🤫

By giving people the upgrade they have freed up a balcony suite for the guaranteed travelers plus please those who got upgraded. As close to a win win scenario as Celebrity could get
