2 pax on one ticket - one cant make it

Just asking for feedback, have a ticket on JQ OOL to MEL and return. Two of us on the ticke,t my partner cant make becuase of work.
Should I call JQ and let them know? Or just check both of us in and tell them at the airport? (I know and understand that I wont get a credit or refund.)
I am thinking if I dont tell them until the airport I will have a spare seat next to me!

If it was me I would wait until the last possible moment to tell them. More than likely as I am the last to board the flight.

And I know some will say that is not the right thing to do. And my response would be.

"Is the right to do to tell the airline so they can (try and) sell the seat and not refund anything back?"

Split the ticket into two. Was there not a member who had dramas with JQ by not telling them their partner was not traveling with them that day.

Have had this happen to me on Jetstar as well... Bit of a coincidence. As my traveling companion couldn't get a refund they just left the ticket.

I checked them in online and selected the seat next to me.

Then it was funny at the airport hearing them paged to go to gate XX as your flight is ready for an immediate departure. Since they were checked in JQ couldn't assign the seat next to me.

So I had a spare seat. Win!

I had this exact same thing, I just split the PNRs, very simple process over the phone, then just don't show up.

Simply do a no-show would be the easiest option. If your conscience is more important the empty seat next to you, let them know at the airport. Otherwise, have the other person OCLI and choose the seat next to you. Note that your flight will be delayed, together with another 100-odd people.

I dont' believe the flight will actually be delayed by the failure to board of a passenger that has checked in but checked no luggage. When you look at the average on-time performance and typical schedule deviation for a flight I doubt it'll have any impact at all - any deviation will be well within the margin of error for that flight's typical on-time performance.

Waitlisted are exactly that, they will get the seat anyway!

If a pax is a no-show, they could get a call from the gate agent, especially if one of the two pax has boarded.

I've been on many a flight where online checked in people have been no shows, they call within the terminal and onboard, then offload from paxmanifest then we push back on time. If there was baggage invloved, it wouldbe a different matter, have had that a few times where it takes the handlers a while to find baggage.

this is going to sound horrible, but given that JQ will do you no favours for your honesty, I wouldn't do them any either. Enjoy the empty seat!!

Agree with the posters. Why should Jetstar get the benefit of being able to sell the seat?

Why not split the PNRs then add the plus pack that allows for date changes, JQ dont have expiry dates on their tickets!

will they let you do this?? i thought the incentive was to add it on at the time of purchase and not after the fact?

For a $40 change fee yes, then you cna just keep chaining the date until it suits:

Subject to payment of Change Fee and Fare Difference applicable at time of change, Starter fares can be changed to an available Starter, Starter Fare with Plus Bundle, Starter Fare with Max Bundle, Business Fare or Business Fare with Max Bundle.

you don't need to keep paying the $40 fee every time you date change?

perhaps thats not such a bad idea, but depending on the value of the original fare, it may not be worth it for the OP.
