Hi all,

Me and the Mrs are looking to take a flight SYD - SCL return in J sometime early next year. I've checked and QF27/QF28 (which is the flights we'll be looking at) both have 747-400 as the aircraft serving that flight. I've tried to search though couldn't find an answer, does anyone know if those 747's are refurbished to A380 style yet?

Cheers

While last minute subs can occur, lately its the ERs running on this route which all have been converted.

There's never a 100% guarantee, but QF27/28 have been the new J on every flight since 17th September.

Thanks for the quick response guys! I've just made a booking and am getting a weird seat map, doesn't seem to be the refurbished 747-400. Flight is got end of Jan, so a month out. I'm getting to see an upper and lower deck, pics are follows:

That's a refurb. :) Some seats won't be showing because it is an LA codeshare so the seats you can't see will be for LA pax.

No row 4 means its converted.

The missing seats are blocked of due to a codeshare on that route.

Oh, awesome! Thanks guys!

However, I'm unable to grab 2 seats side by side for my Mrs and myself. Currently they've placed myself on the Upper Deck and hers in the lower deck. I was going to book with my Cathay Diamond FF, however I wanted the Status Credits for QF. Given that flight is a month out, is it likely that some more seats will free up? Is it worth giving Qantas a call? I'm a lowly QF Silver FF. Aiming to get to Gold this assessment period.

Cheers

Take 5F and 5J for now - 5J has it's own side storage and is considered one of the preferred seats in the cabin.

Put your CX number in the booking now and then at the airport get them to put in your QF number.

Thanks everyone.

@serfty - I've just locked those two seats in. Appreciate the heads up.

@simongr - I've already placed my QF FF number into the booking and it doesn't allow me to amend. Do I need to call to amend? If I do amend, are you sure that I'll be able to change at check-in?

Just called Qantas. They were able to change my QF FF to my CX FF. Now have front row Upper Deck available on both flights for the two of us! The rep did tell me that if I was to call and change back to my QF FF I'd lose my seat preferences...

If I change at check-in, it may cancel my return flight seat preferences. However, at least that way I get one way in Upper Deck and earn QF miles/status. Would be great if seat preferences are not deleted !

Once you have taken the flight just call and get the CX number put back in and see what seats you can get.
