He's not as generous as he was before Christmas when it was 30,000 bonus points.
Major, the maximum used to be 40K (plus any bonuses) in a calendar year, per account. So any uplift in the base maximum is welcome.
I forgot to buy the additional mileage in December, so an early bonus is welcome. Yes, there could be a better bonus later in the year, but if people need the mileage now, then a bird in the hand...
Personally I think the ATO option works best (even if my points are going to SQ rather than QF) but not sure it's an either/or for most of us given it depends on the size of your ATO bill. The amount I can put through the ATO each year is slightly less than what you have and is my case is tax deductable (but I'm not giving tax advice here!). So yes that's a no-brainer but that amount of points won't get me and mey wife where we want to get every year let alone the kids.Interesting!
The cost is cheap @ $1,650US however, paying the ATO on the amex you can get 150,000 QF points for $1,450.
Need to look into this AA caper.....does 75,000 AApoints get you very far in J or F? If you are fortunate enough to have the ATO option, is it better to remain QF focused or spread the love over to AA?
As an example, 72,500 AA miles can get you from anywhere in AU to anywhere in the USA travelling F, one way (depending on availability of course).

So the ATO points will give us (with a bit of supplementary spending) enough to take a decent trip every two years but if we want to do it every year we need to unvestigate the AA/US/Lifemiles options. Personnally not sure that AA is the best of those 3 options but plenty here will disagree with me. I would certainally agree its worth loking into (along with the other two options).
based on an earn versus burn, IMHO AA is better as the example flight above showcased - just check out the similar QF cost. Where else can you get 75K miles for $1,650USD based on buying direct from the airline (certainly nothing on OW airlines). Thanks for that. Based on buying Vs CC earning of points, they appear to produce the same value - for similar cost. However, I can see a big advantage if AAward availability is more plentiful than QFF or even better...additional to the QF allocation.
Not in F, but possible for a mix of F & J, particularly if you get the QFF award seats at the first opportunity (355 days) and then wait another month until they open up the award seats for AA. I have achieved this way, but only NZ to Australia. Is it possible to re-deem 2 x seats via QF & 2 x seats via AA on the same flight/day? Getting 4 J or F seats solely via QF can be difficult!

I have achieved better success with CX (2xF and 2xJ), all with AA points.
Yes, that's one of the reasons my point go to SQ rather than QF, not only do you get a better burn rate you get much better chances to redeem, I've redeemed for 4 people over the school holidays! Don't want to subvert this into a OW vs *A argument though, AA can be very useful if your destimation is the states. Our problem is not the amount of points we can accumulate....it's the amount of availability that QF dish out.
