Doubletree Melbourne

Not a fan of that location but it's always good to have a choice of Hilton properties I suppose. Might help to keep the rates down.

There is probably another thread about this somewhere but I couldn't find it so I thought of posting a reminder that DT MEL will open it's doors on Dec 1 and it offers some decent rates ATM.
New DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne: Flinders Street hotel to open in December - Australian Business Traveller

woot!!!

The area sure isn't the absolute best, but its pretty central and only a short walk to everywhere. One thing I always felt about HSW is that it feels sort of 'out there'. Wander out the front of the hotel at night and the whole area is generally completely deserted. Getting better now that South Wharf is starting to build up a bit, but still pretty dead.

I haven't tried any of the DT's in Australia yet, but if they are anything like the Asian ones then they give Hilton a pretty good run for their money, just what is needed imho to keep hiltons motivation for good product high (hopefully).

Location isn't too bad, gives another option in Melbourne, will be handy if mattress running is required to keep my Hilton Gold, I might have to try it out in December.

The report talks about a DT for Perth and Fremantle, trying to think if its new or a hotel is being re branded.

I'd be willing to try it out if the price was competitive relative to HSW and HotP. The dates I've looked at, its only a tad cheaper though...

New builds

Hilton Worldwide has signed two new-build hotels in Perth and Fremantle, Western Australia.
The hotels are the third and fourth announced in greater Perth in the past seven days alone, with hotels under the Ritz-Carlton and Aloft brands revealed by Marriott and Starwood alike.
The management agreement with SKS Group will see the properties branded DoubleTree by Hilton and they will join Hilton Worldwide’s existing portfolio of 20 hotels in Australasia.

For 12 Dec 2014 - 13 Dec 2014, one night, HotP is AUD 209, HSW is AUD 238, and the DT is AUD 275...

Thanks for the link, I am surprised that the existing Parmelia Hilton Perth can stay a Hilton without a lounge but the Double Tree might have a lounge.

The Fremantle property I will believe it when I see it, as nothing is happening there yet, but there is a bit of construction on the site at Barrack Street, maybe not for the hotel but that area is being redeveloped.

I'm not a big fan of the locations of both Hiltons in MEL. One is good if going to the footy and the other if going to the exhibition centre but non of then is centrally located like the ones in SYD and BNE.
As I'm going to change my address soon and will need to stay in hotels in MEL for a while, the new DT looks like a good option if the price is right.
I booked one night for $165 in Dec which is $40 cheaper then both Hiltons and with the novelty of staying in a new hotel, I reckon it's not a bad value.

Not the most scenically inviting area of town but right in the city nevertheless. Good at last to see the American chains such as Hilton and Starwood adding hotels, particularly in their second tier brands. As others say pricing compared to the two Hiltons will be key.

The thought of a lounge at this hotel brings mirth to any Melburnian! To answer your question seriously though; there is no lounge.
However the hotel can provide you with a unique room - A Twin Guest Room - Interior - with no windows!

First stay there this Sunday night. Any good? Looking forward to another melbourne option...
Yes

I like the BKK DT, very friendly staff (not that way!!). Backs onto the Sukhumvit Hilton for a very quick mattress run if required. They treat diamonds very well, I've been upgraded every time I've stayed here.

Wonder what the parking is like...that's one good thing about HOTP and HSW - good parking and relatively cheap. AKA not $65 a night like Hilton Sydney!
