Please don't take this as gospel, but I think its something along the lines of changing your earning preference to points and miles and crediting those miles to EY.

Has anybody worked out how to do this yet?? There is no landing page on the etihad site (that i can find!) and numerous google searches turn up nothing but the LoyaltyLobby article about it!

Have you tried the AirBerlin version? Possibly easier.

Thanks John, I've seen that one before. Was thinking of trying that one in December, and complete it in January to take advantage of the condition below and have the status until March 2018...

Note that if you complete the challenge in 2015 the status will be valid until March 2017. If you complete it in 2016 even when you have started it in 2015, the status is valid until March 2018.
