Now this is one place you dont have to worry about a suite upgrade or indeed having SPG status-you are guaranteed a suite! However we had tickets to the Padres v Giants baseball which was originally scheduled for 1740 but had been bought forward to 1310 as it was the TV game of the day-the 2 teams fighting for first place in the NBL west division. So we turned up at the hotel at 1030 and I went up to the lobby(it is on the 12th floor)and asked if it was possible to check in early. No problem.Given a room on the club floor-26th.A view over SAN so could watch the planes coming in to land.
It is an older hotel and the suites are not of great size but comfortable and it has had a soft refurb.Bath is quite shallow and as in many US hotels the mechanical bath plug was not completely watertight so you kept the water running whilst having a bath. Why has the old rubber plug gone out of fashion?

Now it is not the most convenient position in San Diego but I found it an easy walk down to the Convention centre and Petco Park.It was also 50% cheaper than the next SPG property on a X4R rate.
As a Platinum got free full breakfast. There is a lounge but not operating at present. The real plus were the staff.Always friendly and smiling and willing to help.At breakfast on the 4th morning I was greeted by name and asked if Mrsdrron would be down later as usual.she also was greeted by name.Had a problem with internet access-someone had been extremely rough with the cable.A fellow was up with a new cable in 2 minutes and made sure everything was fine.
So I certainly would be happy to stay here again.

My family voted on the Omni in San Diego if you are going to Petco Park for the baseball. There is a bridge joining the hotel property to the stadium so it is a real winner.
Baseball memorabilia adorn the walls and that really excited the kids prior to the match.
You can get real dining inside Petco at a fair price if you pay a bit more for your game tickets.
Nothing this good is at a low price but with the current exchange rate you might like to treat yourself to a life experience.
There are plenty of casual restaurants in walking distance of this hotel.
Suite hotels for family travels can be very good because you only need one room so I liked the photos posted by drron. It looks family friendly and a winner as well.
