Free basic internet is planned at all Accor owned and operated properties in Asia Pacific within the next four months. Evan Lewis, Accor’s vice president of communications Asia-Pacific, told TTG Asia: “It is clear that we must take a position on free Internet. By the end of the year, Internet will be free in all Accor hotels across the region.”

At this stage the plan is that basic email and browsing will be free but users indulging in bandwidth heavy activities like watching movies will pay. RecentAccor research shows that the level of internet charges have a major impact of booking decisions.

'Owned and operated' will cut a few hotels out!

About time. The costs in Australia for Internet at their hotels is killing them!! Thankfully at most Asian Accor Hotels it is already free.

I was pleasantly surprised that this has already happened at the Pullman in Auckland. Basic access is now free with high speed access (16x faster apparently) at $10/day. A pleasant change from the $29/day I paid last time

But only if you connect in the executive lounge. Once connected you can go anywhere in the hotel though for 24hrs

Well I connected in my room (the $10 plan) and it worked fine. Download speed was pretty good

One can only hope this is the start of a trend in hotels realising that internet access is like the bathroom soaps, a guest necessity rather than a for-profit amenity.
