[TD="width: 430, align: left"]I am very pleased to share with you that Malaysia Airlines has entered into a new global aviation partnership with Emirates. The partnership, between two leading brands, will provide you access to a dramatically expanded range of travel options. This includes super connectivity for up to 38 destinations in Europe on a daily and even double daily basis for key European cities such as Zurich, Rome, Munich, Frankfurt, Madrid and Barcelona. More details can be read on the News Page on our website.
Emirates, based in Dubai, is the largest A380 operator in the world, comprising of 69 out of its 243 fleet size. Emirates flies to more than 140 destinations across 6 continents and has one of the best service standards in the world.
We will be unveiling the exciting benefits of the Emirates and Malaysia Airlines Frequent Flyer Programme soon , which will offer you, expanded opportunities to earn and redeem miles and points to all parts of the world.

This partnership is in addition to the benefits enjoyed in the one world alliance network, with connections to over 900 destinations across the globe from 15 other airline members.
We value your patronage with Enrich and we look forward to your continued support to our programme.
Thank you.

Will be interesting to see how the EK partner earn and burn is. Still a 2 stop strategy for Australian flyers to Europe though
I wonder what QFs view on the matter is

Presumably MH will only stick with LHR (and maybe CDG) direct in Europe after the tie-up

Much like Qantas, who now fly only to London in Europe after tying up with Emirates.

I wonder what's in this for Malaysia Airlines?

Report says that they were in the black for the last qtr.

Not surprising. Like QF ... If you can't beat them, join them. This may actually impact 3K who have lots of EK codeshares within SE Asia. I imagine MH would be a more appealing codeshare partner than 3K, not that most passengers would care when booking.

I can't quite see the full rationale for the tie-up with EK. Wouldn't it have made more sense to pursue a code-share agreement with BA for various European destinations out of LHR since they are desperate to try and fill up their twice-daily A380 services there? A code-share arrangement with EK makes more sense for destinations in the US east coast and Africa.

A codeshare agreement with BA would run into the same problems QF had - backtracking from LHR adds time to the journey. If it's going to be one-stop it may as well be in DXB, this way MH retains loyalty (albeit at a reduced share of revenue) rather than losing them to the ME3. I'm also not sure whether BA see any value in a codeshare - they fly to KUL themselves and fly on their own metal / codeshare with CX on points to Australia.

In any case the A380s won't be around much longer, they'll be replaced by A350s in a couple of years which should be easier for MH to fill.

I notice that Malaysian currently only fly once a day to Dubai with an A330, while Emirates fly 4x daily between Dubai and Kuala Lumpur using a mixutre of 777s and A380s.

I also notice that MH's existing DXB service is not well-timed for onward or arriving connections to/from Europe.

Any idea if this will change? As it is, it looks to me like MH is basically just going to be donating its customers to Emirates.

Given MH have set their sights on becoming a regional focused carrier, handing Europe bound traffic to EK doesn't seem like such a ridiculous idea.

2. I hope for a status match.

I got an email saying my enrich membership is expiring in Feb unless I wake it back up. Let's see what happens there.
