We seem to have at least 1 Brisbane drinks night every month in 2011, and I thought we better round of the year and organize one for December.

Date: Tuesday 20 December 2011.

The venue is Irish Murphy's, 175 George St Brisbane, we didn't win the quiz at The Mill last time so we will try somewhere different.

Time: Onwards from 5:30pm.

I am sure a few other members could be free, so if you aren't doing anything come along for a drink.

Everyone is welcome.

Ahh bundy, you beat me to it.

Im in town from Monday to Wednesday and was going to suggest something for the Tuesday night as I need to fly back Wednesday afternoon..

Have asked the mods to change the heading of the thread to Tuesday 20 December 2011 at Irish Murphys.

I should be alright for that night. Haven't been to one of these get-togethers for a long time...

So why the move from the Mill?

I understand that it may not be the best place in the world - hell, its a bar and I dislike it, but it's an institution for BNE drinks.

Interested in hearing why

Change is always good, also if anyone has any other recommendations for Brisbane drinks then we could choose them as well.

We will back at The Mill in the new year as I find it is never too busy and has some parking nearby.

The one thing I like about the mill is cheapish drinks and generally quiet. Food has gone up tho and quality isn't the same as it once was. I still like the place. If we were to branch out more then international at spring hill is a nice place but another 10 mins walk from town.

It is difficult to balance quality and cost of drinks and food, ease of access, quality of service, with a quiet place that is inviting.

At least the mill has many of those.

Groove Train on King George Square is pretty much on par with drinks pricing AFAICT, i.e. don't see the drinks being cheaper than at Irish Murphy's. For those that came to AFF #4, anyone remember what that was like?

Of course, I'm not a heavy-ish drinker, especially when it's on my account, so if you are knocking back a few, a corporate expense account might be desirable. ;) :p :D

If you get a table far from the square itself outside, it's quite managable, though those not used to our Brisbane humidity might be caught out on the odd day.

Food is of course city prices, but a decent selection at probably like-for-like pricing to most places in the city after you factor in quality.

KGS really only gets busy during special festivals (e.g. the Spiegeltent) or Friday nights. The rest of the time, even during Christmas, it's pretty quiet to tolerable. There's also the big screen, but it's easily possible to talk over the volume there.

Also, I believe there are no distractions like trivia ;)

I should be there...

Hope to catch up with everyone...

Being a complete newbie at AFF I plan to come along and say g'day (and have a beer or three). Any tips on how to work out which group will be the AFFers (or will you all have your FF tags hanging around your necks like dogtags)?

On previous drinks nights I will sometimes include a photo, this gives you an idea what we look like, usually you can tell the group as we are talking about flying, airports, credit cards, to give you some idea.

I wasn't certain before, but I am now. Approval granted by the social secretary, so put me down as a definite attendee.

Looking at my day I am definite starter.

I should even be early...

I'll be out of town unfortunately. One day I'll make it to a brisbane drinks.
