One of our overseas visitors to Ozfest VIII will be in Brisbane on May 19 on his way to Sydney before going up to Darwin for Ozfest VIII in Darwin. Unless someone can suggest something better then I think our regular drinks venue is as good a place as any.

The venue is Irish Murphy's, 175 George St Brisbane.

Does anyone really need an excuse to have a drink? Everyone is welcome....

I shall likely skip this one as I’m doing my best to save cash for flights and hotels and whatnot for later this year.

Can we not do the Mill and do the Irish Pub instead? Mind you the Mill is closer to my home, but not as nice - especially as I will be going to the Mill the following week.

Omg. Who booked you in all the way out there? Less you are doing something w the hospital... Can you get to the CBD?

You should see the prices for hotels the night before thanks to some football match being on, $600 a night in the CBD for all the 5 stars.

I'm a distinct possibility for a 30 minute to an hour stay on this night.

Hopefully ozbeachbabe may attend so I can give her ozbeachhunk's AFF golf trophy

I might be tempted to try something different and have a dessert and a pint and skip the following week :p

I have been in contact with Bob W on Flyertalk (I see you have joined AFF as well)

P.S Chinos is not that far from Buranda railway station and is a ~15 minute trip to Central railway station and then ~5-10 minute walk to The Mill.
I'm thinking of moving to Gabba Central Serviced Apartments. Closer, cheaper and has wireless internet included. Any thoughts?

The hotel is about the same price, but wireless costs extra at Chino. Plus, I can get a shuttle from the airport to CBD.

I don't need a high end room. I'm more about location and after doing some searching, Gabba seems to be the better choice for that.

At this stage I am inclined to leave the venue as the Mill.

It is quieter, parking easily available, has cheap drinks, meal options.

Personally, and yes I know I am a little biased, I see nothing wrong with having a regular drinks venue. We have also hosted overseas visitors at the Mill before.

I'll see how I feel. Even though it is a couple of hundred metres from my front door, I am less inclined to want to go there given we are back the following week and I think the food is less than its price point.
If you see me you see me, if you don't you don't (obviously).

Drink prices are competitive and the food may be a little overpriced but is consistent.

Where else would you go for a regular drinks night? Irish Murphy's is not cheap but also does not have reasonable food options. So you would need to spend sometime at Irish Murphy's and then go somewhere for dinner. This gets too confusing for people especially one's that do not read the detaails of the threads in full. They see Brisbane drinks and assume it is at the Mill.

Some may not agree but the Mill is convenient and has served us well for close to 3 years now. At least AFFers know someone will be there from ~5:30pm-9:30pm on drinks nights.

I am another who wouldn't mind going to Irish Murphy's on the 19 May, I am more likely to be there now.

OK.

Irish Murphy's it is then at 5:30pm. So where is dinner and what time?

Can one of the moderators please change the opening post

Can you please get in touch with each of the people who have expressed interest and inform them of the change of venue?

Typical Serviced Apartments. Avoid the "hotel style" rooms if you can - but if only one night shouldn't be a drama.

Internet is included on some rates, but is capped at a pretty small time/download. Good public transport options from there (over the road from a well serviced bus station, and not too far from the CBD (walkable in about 35 mins). In the same complex as a supermarket, pub, bakery, bottle shop and a few takeaway food places.

Still planning on attending.

Not worried where it is - just ensure it's decided before Thursday night :D

I'm looking less likely on a number of fronts, mostly because I expect I'll be flying down to SYD on a day trip to see 1 client.
