OOL Drinks Night - Wednesday 20th July

I am proposing a monthly Gold Coast drinks night to save Good Coast members a lengthy drive/train trip to Brisbane. Having previously made the journey monthly, I can attest to the sometimes crazy dash to catch the train home, and then the annoyance of a long train ride home.

I'm currently enjoying a lovely bar called 'Aloha Bar & Dining' in Broadbeach (18 Main Place) and would propose at least the first occurrence to be held there. It's easy to get to with good public transport links (tram, bus) and the Oasis car park nearby offering 3 hours free parking, however is a little bit hidden so can be hard to find (follow the golden palm trees spray painted on the ground around the side of a heavily graffitied building - there's only one).

I propose a 6 - 6:30 start.

I might be able to head down to the Coast on one of those nights, but think that would require its own thread. Just depends how my money situation is doing by then, having some issues with Centrelink

For anyone planning to attend tonight, the bar can be tricky to find. It is located at 18 Main Place, Broadbeach. A small one-way lane parallel to the Gold Coast Highway. If driving, you can park for 3 hours free of charge at the Oasis shopping centre, before walking down to the bar, otherwise there is a parking lot underneath the Phoenician Resort (off Main Place) with parking available for $5. Conveniently, this car parks entrance is directly opposite the bar.

If coming via public transport, Uber will drop you off right outside or there's a tram stop in the centre of the highway, almost opposite the location.

What you're looking for is a graffitied building with a (big) fridge out the front of it and cars parked down the side of it. You walk between the cars to the back of the building, where the entrance is hidden behind some palms. You'll know you're in the right place because there will be golden palms spray painted onto the sidewalk, like a trail of breadcrumbs.

Had a great night at Aloha yesterday, meeting ike for the first time, and a few regulars.

Food was delicious, and the drinks seemed to go down well, only member missing was jetlagger who finished work later than planned.

Hope to do another drinks night in August, date TBA.
