Founded in March 1999, eDreams has grown to become the biggest e-commerce travel company in Spain and one of the leaders in Europe. We offer over 60,000 flight routes from more than 100 airlines, and over 150,000 hotels in 30,000 destinations around the world, as well as vacation packages and car rentals. We are able to do this through our highly developed search engine and booking technologies.
Our goal is to offer the widest choice of flights, hotels and tailored holiday packages at the most competitive prices. But apart from helping customers to plan their travels, we also offer online marketing and advertising services to other businesses.
Based in Barcelona, Spain, we are currently operating in 19 countries, including Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, the UK and the US, among others. In 2011 eDreams expanded to Turkey to become the first international operator in this emerging market. We will continue our international expansion with investments into an improved service for various countries, and new websites in more markets all over the world.
Our co-founder and CEO is Javier Pérez-Tenessa de Block. After studying aeronautical engineering in Madrid and getting his MBA at Stanford University, United States, he began his career designing satellites. In 1995 he moved to Silicon Valley to work for AOL and Netscape before co-founding eDreams with the intention of creating an online travel agency in Europe.
In July 2010, the European private equity house Permira became the company's majority shareholder. And, a year later, in July 2011, eDreams merged with GO Voyages and acquired Opodo and Travellink to found the ODIGEO group. Serving 12 million customers each year across 28 countries, ODIGEO is one of the leading online travel groups worldwide.
