Hello everyone.

I was wondering if anyone here knows if SYD-JFK via LAX is considered 1 segment or 2 given that uses the same QF11 flight code.

The reason for my question is that I need to complete 2 more eligible flights to maintain FF gold.

Thank you in advance!!

Usually if it’s the same flight number you only get one ~. Eh the QF9 MEL-LHR only credits as one. Even though there’s a stop

As @calmelb indicated, If booked as SYD-JFK then it's considered a single eligible flight.

If booked as SYD-LAX and LAX-JFK then two segments, but that can be difficult to arrange.

@akabilly , You may be able to route via MEL or BNE for not much more - that'd get you the segments.

Seat selection is also a pain for this flight. You can't view or change your seats online.

One segment for QF11 SYD-JFK for “~” purposes even though it’s a different aircraft

Just ring up and request seat

2 segments for QF15 BNE-LAX QF11 LAX-JFK even though the same aircraft operates both sectors

QF9 MEL-LHR via PER is also one segment as well.

I flew it two weeks ago in PE:

- it was ticketed showing two legs because of the change in plane - the same flight number is useful when weather delays the departure out of JFK, supposedly they have to hold the A380 at LAX until it arrives and can connect because you can't have two planes in the air with the same flight number
- however only credits as one flight

I flew QF12 last weekend and it only credited as 1 flight and segment despite the plane change. I had to call to get seats allocated and they did hold the lax-syd A380 for the late arrival on the dreamliner from jfk. The intersting thing was full SCs and Points had posted by time i landed in LAX, so i'd levelled up to gold but didnt get the benefit.

Everytime i take ths flight it is late out of NY usually due to combination of late arrival of the bne flight then arvo weather, so i never get to visit the lounge at LAx as the A380 is always already boarding when i exit the dreamliner.

They don't have to hold it. They'll hold it depending on how many people are making the connection and if they can accommodate those people on the other flights.
They can simply change the ATC call sign for one of the QF12s and depart for SYD on time should they choose to do so.
