Loud in the lounge

Sitting in the Qantas Business lounge in Sydney at the moment and unimpressed with a women who is speaking into her phone using the speaker so we all have to listen to her conversation - and she has a piercing voice as well
What's the protocol for calling her on it (and before someone suggests it I don't know if her iPhone would fit there)
And now she's got the attendant who was cleaning the tables to go and get her a soy late from the barista! Clearly she thinks she's in the First Class lounge!

Id be walking up telling her to shut it.... Or as someone posted here a while back, eavesdrop and workout her employer then call them....

Who is the attendant? There is one guy there who I have to talk out of getting me drinks and such. He is a very friendly chap and he knows all the regular customers and similarly will get them drinks and whatever. He even got me some NPPPs once.

Simple: Walk up right next to her with anyone else in the Lounge that is equally ready to introduce her digestive tract to her iPhone and start discussing (very loudly) some intricate and messy surgical procedure: prostate exam or similar woudl do & be extra graphic - even lean in to her "space" to make it doubly obvious, as it seems subtle wont work for her.

One of my pet hates people who think that they are sooooo important that they need to share their importance with the rest of us mere plebs, lol.
Go tell her to shut the speaker phone off and I would be telling lounge personnel on how protocol in the lounge needs to improve.

Business lounge or Maccas, talking loudly on your phone in public is just downright rude. And, I might add, unnecessary. Talking loudly does not make it louder at the other end, just more distorted.

At work we have some employees that tend to get loud. I normally just remind then that "they are using a telephone, you don't need to yell". As opposed to talking to someone on the other side of a football field.

You could have "accidently" spilt your drink on her while walking past. Although that's a bit extreme, and would probably cause an even further increase in volume.

In saying that, what's the proper etiquette for taking a call in the lounge?

• Talk quietly (will it work over the hubbub)?
• Exit the lounge for any conversation?
• Ask lounges to consider creating conversation rooms or "phone booths" (the latter being somewhat a culturally inspired fixture in some overseas lounges)?
• Retire to a spare bathroom / shower room?

Tell me, what is the difference between someone talking loudly on the phone and a group - or at least one person in a group - of people talking loudly (usually after a few quiet ones)? Same issue as far as I am concerned, and with a group, or individuals talking loudly, what would the action be of those who advocate going up and turning this persons phone off or similar such actions? A couple of weeks ago I had my first visit to a QP in about 8 months (at BKK) and the one thing I noticed instantly was the very loud ocker accents(just a couple, not the whole lounge)that echoed throughout the lounge. I'd forgotten about how loud QP's can be compared to many lounges.

Walk up to the woman's phone and ask the person on the other end if they were aware their conversation was being fully shared with all the people nearby.

I did search to see if there was an existing thread and I looked at that one but decided that as this was someone speaking into their phone using the speaker function that it justified its own thread on people talking too loudly into phones

If you are close to hear name of person on other end - say " Hi xx_ my name is tom/dick/harry seeing the phone is on speaker i assume anyone can join the conversation" and continue to do so until lounge person takes them off speaker.

Agreed, thats my attitude too, As I said, I can't turn my ears off, and if you're engaging in a conversation thats loud enough for it to be heard by me, its a public conversation.

Not sure if I'm actually game to try it but I've thought of recording some of the conversation on my own phone and then playing it back at loud volume.
