In a quick visit back to my home town my Auntie asked if I had any spare amenity kits for a charity she was working with. After reading the website I'm now packing about 20 odd bags to get to them to help their cause which of those who read the link daysforgirls.org would appreciate is one of things in life some of us don't consider.

I told her I would post it here hoping other AFFer's might donate their spare kits.

Will also pinch the odd bar of soap for them too.

Good topic! Those amenity kits build up over time and you get to a point where you realise that you don't need them! I have previously donated mine to some local charities as well. Even parts of amenities kits are useful to someone homeless (especially things like socks and toothbrushes).

Over the years we've given our flight amenity kits to a local doctor who does the rounds of the elderly retirement homes, now we are seniors and don't fly much these days we use them ourselves :)

I regularly donate a large garbage bag of these to the women's shelter, along with new toothbrushes (free from the dentist) and pjs from the flights.
Anyone in Perth wants to drop them off to me or I can pick them up if you don't have time or ability to track them down yourself (they don't give out addresses, generally).

Great idea - mine go to the women's shelters plus any excess bags and small make up when I get them on special.

Mrs GPH has about 4-6 (virgin) wine boxes full of such stuff for a similar good cause.

While I don't often get flash kits, I always give them to a local church or Vinnies. Make great pencil cases for kids; socks and creams always useful for the elderly. Toothbrushes and paste (usually from an EK lounge, as these are quality that last) and the odd soap and shampoo from a hotel -- always very welcomed.

Mrs GPH is a contributor to this group, and I believe she is not alone.
See my previous post. The boxes I spoke of are to go to "every little bit helps"

We also contribute our Hotel Amenities to this group, and have a box of PJ's going today.

"Evert Little Bit Helps" is a voluntary group that operate from residential premises of the founder last time I heard. They have been collecting amenity kits, tooth brushes, soap etc for a few years. They have collection points set out on their face book page. I use the one at Flight Centre in York Street near Wynyard in Sydney. A worthwhile cause with a useful end for unwanted essentials.

I finally stopped my husband from taking every soap and bottle from the hotel, because I got sick of storing the stuff, but it seems I have to let him have free will and let him go for it in future.

Thanks for sharing.

I know Katryna (from the article) and she does great work.
I usually donate to Pinchapoo given they are based in Melb not too far from me.

As I gave my husband the green light to raid all the free goodies, he came home from his dentist with about a dozen small Oral B toothpastes on Friday, each would last about 2 weeks by the looks of them.

Will share the freebies around so will mail these tomorrow to Pinchapoo.

Hi,

Thanks for those that have mentioned Every Little Bit Helps. I am Katryna, the Founder of Every Little Bit Helps. Thanks to those that have recently found us, as well as those that have been long term supporters :)

We currently have drop off locations in QLD, NSW, VIC & SA, otherwise donations can be sent to PO Box 340 Forestville NSW 2087.

The following link to our website will provide you with more information about our services and also a link to our drop off locations. elbh.org.au

We provide a model that allows Shelters and Refuges to contact us and place an order for our care packs based on their Clients needs and their storage capacity.

On a personal note - I love that so many of you are already donating to shelters and refuges :)

Have a great day

K
