Are you ready for an exciting flight full of your fellow Star Alliance frequent travelers?

Would you like to party while winging your way across the USA?

Does getting behind the scenes at airports and airplane manufacturers sound better than your normal workaday plans?

Would you like to earn miles at the same time?

The annual Star Mega Do charter flight is scheduled for November 5, 2010. This year a Continental Boeing 757-300 has been chartered to take 216 enthusiasts across the USA, with close up activities with various Star Alliance and other partners, including:
  • US Airways
  • Continental/United (the new merged company)
  • Boeing
  • Starwood Hotel Group

To participate in this Do, you must sign up, pay for and participate in the charter flight day (5 November). There are other activities on the other days (starting from Nov 1) which are optional and may attract additional costs, but you are welcome to come along to those as well. One of these is the inaugural Frequent Traveller Awards, held on the night of 4 November in Houston (IAH).

The Star Mega Do Charter day of 5 November consists of:
  • 0700 CST: CO 1905 takes off from IAH bound for PHX
  • 0800 MST: We park at the US Airways hangar
  • 0800-1200 MST: US Airways invites the participants to their PHX Hub & LH invites you to their ACTA
  • 1200 MST: We board CO 1905 from the regular PHX terminal
  • 1500 PST: We land at Paine Field in Everett Washington Paine (PAE) for a special tour of the Boeing factory and to see LH's latest aircraft, the B 747-8i
  • 1900 PST: Starwood reception in downtown Seattle

Both redeemable and status miles are awardable for flying the charter for FFP accounts in UA, CO, LH and BD programs. (Miles will be based on charter BIS miles flown, plus elite bonuses). If you're staying longer during the Do, Starwood have special rates for the Do hotels, plus you can be instantly upgraded to SPG Gold or get a SPG Platinum status match, as well as earn a bonus 1000 Starpoints per night staying at the Do hotels.

I was a participant of the inaugural Star Mega Do last year. The Star Mega Do has been much talked about in FlyerTalk and has received sizeable press coverage as well. The Star Alliance is well aware of the Do and is very open to the idea, with support from various Star Alliance partners, including those mentioned above and:
  • Lufthansa and the Lufthansa Group
  • bmi
  • Frankfurt Airport
  • SAS
  • Airbus
It was a fantastic event last year with some experiences that you couldn't ordinarily buy. This year it's going to be even better.

There are about 30 seats left on the charter. The cost is USD 699, which includes flying the charter, participation in all charter day activities and meals.

For more information and to sign up for the Do, please visit the Star Mega Do 2 Master Thread on FlyerTalk, at: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/comm...gado-2010-smd2-nov-1-6-2010-masterthread.html

I'm also happy to field questions in this thread - so please post away. Otherwise, I strongly encourage you to sign up to what will be an excellent event!

If you have the opportunity to go - definitely do it.

I'd go if it wasn't for a kinda important wedding im expected to attend that weekend :P

Looks like anat0l is the only AFFer that I've spotted in the above blogs...

Bundy Bear is there somewhere, he’s been posting photos back, so I guess always behind the lens ;)

sounds fun from what I’ve been reading on Twitter and Facebook.

Star Mega Do 2 was fun.

It is not often you get to walk inside a new aircraft(787) that is still on the test program, before revenue service.

Sorry no photos on the Boeing stuff.

I might add a bit more when I get home if Qantas economy doesn't kill me in the mean time. :(

Isn’t Kingfisher joining 1W? At least they’re winning things now, so lets hope they continue to do so after they’ve joined.

Meh ... all such awards ≡ Grain of salt IMHO.

And when/how often are Australians likely to fly Kingfisher?

As serfty mentioned take these type of awards with a grain of salt....

And when/how often are Australians likely to fly Kingfisher?

Well I can’t speak for the whole of Australia and say they’ll all be wanting to fly on a carrier that can credit to QF, but following the Commonwealth Games there might me more that want to visit, and an airline that’s won a few insignificant awards and can be credited to Qantas is better than one that hasn’t and can’t?

And when/how often are Australians likely to fly Kingfisher?
Perhaps those wanting to get into secondary Indian ports using OW.
I was required to be in HYD for a conference a few yrs back. The only OW option was BA from LHR. It may have been a better option than flying the A300 on TG, or a 9 hr stopover in SIN on the regional B777, but from PER it is a long way to go;)
