Hi all, as you would have seen in various other posts throughout the year my love affair with QF has started to wane. We have cheated on each other, I with DJ and EK, and she (QF) with JQ. Now DJ was my choice, and it was very enjoyable and we still talk quite often, but haven't quite managed to get our diaries to match for any further rendezvous, but I would say we are more "Same Time, Next Year" than "up in the Air" On the other hand I was pushed into EK's bed as QF was withholding, and a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, I needed to get to MAN in at very short notice just coming up to school holidays, and QF has a headache.

So here I am, I have the friendship ring, the engagement ring, the wedding ring, the eternity ring (WP, PG, LTG and over 28000 LTSC's) yet I ain't getting any love. I +1 + 1/2 want to go to MAN in March next year, so I go to the QFFer webpage thinking, yes, I can burn some points and get us there for free. QF gets a chance to repay me for my loyalty. Plug away at the computer, and they have some availability, not the exact days I wanted, and not the best connections, but close enough, hey I was using my points. I was shaking with excitement at being able to get flights with my QFFer points to the UK in just 6 months time.

So I move through the pages, and then it comes up and says that in addition to the 406000 points, it is going to cost me just under $3000 in taxes.:shock: WTF, isn't the whole purpose of frequent flyer points and a frequent flyer program to get FREE, and I repeat FREE, flights. What the hell is going on here, I must have left a box unticked, or should have ticked a box, so I go and back and redo it, and no I didn't miss a box, this is the price. So I think let's try an ASA. Same outcome, points roughly same with same sort of dollars, but yes I would earn points and SC's on the flights. I then checked the cost of paid flights on QF and it came out at $6429.49.

So I off I go to my bit on the side DJ, but she isn't in the mood either. DJ wants to fly me via SYD or MEL to get to MAN:shock:, something to do with one of her sisters (EY) not liking PER. As I said, I like (really like, and can almost use that male swear word L#VE if the MOD's don't edit my post) DJ, but not enough to add a pointless 10 hours to my journey

So I get out my black book and find EK's contact details, and low and behold she remembers me, (apparently I'm silver with her), and she offers to get me to MAN, with only the one stop in DBX, which means I get to avoid QF's mother-in-law from hell LHR, what's more, travel time is some 5 hours less, and she will do it for only $5796.68. I might have to look for some jewelry or perfume for EK whilst in the duty free shops, she looks like she could be a keeper.

Not that I am a player, or like to cheat, but I thought checking out the dating sites might be good, and I found SQ, she was offering to allow me to do PER-SIN-MAN for $6009.00, in 3 hours less than QF, again I get to avoid the mother-in-law from hell, but there is a very short stopover as one of her friends lives just off the highway in Europe.

So now to the dilemma, what should I do, I have the warmth and comfort of my long time partner QF, what with the lounges, and the priority boarding and priority baggage, and knowing how much she wants me, versus some very interesting options. Should I be a cheater, ask for a hall pass, have a trail separation, or go the whole hog and file for divorce?

I two timed QF and did the SQ girl. Didn't hurt much as the points come easily and our Singapore girl will play your game from tomorrow thru to about 350 days straight.

I had a brief SQ fling but prefer the whole package from EK - whom pick you up and drop you off each time!

I love EK Y, would pick it in a heartbeat over QF. Have done so twice when trips were personal at short notice to GLA, straight from DXB. It was awesome. Better food, IFE and FA's. Most of my long-haul travel is J booked well in advance and OW/ QF is superior to EK for my corporate needs.

Tough decision. You do all that stuff with QF for the lounge etc. then they hit you with ludicrous surcharges. I'd go on Jerry Springer with EK, and obviously they would bring out QF to confront the both of you. Whichever of those b*tches wins is the one for you!

In all seriousness, I don't know. Perhaps the ASA option if you want the priority checkin, lounge entry etc...at least you'll claw back a little bit. But it's a rotten choice for you to have to make.

This is huge, taxes are just getting ridiculous. But a part of this the price for not being monogamous. Just because there's part of you she can't quite satisfy, you have to go outside to BA to get that satisfaction. And even though it's only 1.6% of your overall satisfaction, that bits going to cost you 60,000 points and about $300 in taxes all up.

Funnily enough I am in the middle of booking it with the piece on the side - EK. She wants an extra $8, something about currency conversion changes.

Sometimes using points and then having to pay the taxes is nearly as much as what the fares are worth.

Especially when QF or someone else has deals on.

AY from SIN -> HEL ->MAN is ~17 hours
They have very good Business excursion fares.
Can you stand a Y flight PER-SIN on QF ?
