Hi all, of late I've been really disappointed with EK, my last 4 flights I've had 2 stone cold inedible meals in J, a busted seat in F and staff that are pretty ordinary. The flights last month left me unimpressed as well.

Their 777 J product is really substandard these days and everything just seems so tired on these aircraft. Given so many destinations use these aircraft it's becoming a bit of an avoid type situation.

The flight yesterday in J had an unheated cold meal (chicken) and after it was taken away nothing ever came back! When I asked about it some 10 minutes later I was told that the ovens were off and that was that. I asked to see the purser who never showed up. Pretty poor really.

I also had a chuckle last month the purser had her iPad and basically read my name right off it on her welcome walk around, i mean, why bother at all?

Needless to say I get the feeling they are a bit stale.

Love to hear everyone else's thoughts of late.
 
Yeah I've been equally disappointment with EK of late. Had a very average flight JNB-DXB a few months ago (after several substandard Tasman crossings) and vowed never again.

The 777 is terrible very ordinary. QF Skybed 1 isn't great, but at least it's in the process of being replaced. There's nothing to look forward to with EK.

All of the middle eastern airlines have very very poor post-flight customer care and, given the inflight service is dropping, it's not worth risking them anymore.
 
If you are after luxury in J try Qatar.

I have flown them twice now to Europe return and cannot fault their J product or service.

The dine on demand out of a menu is what it says - you can have anything in the menu when you want - no limits on quantity or time.
 
Have a friend that flies to London at least twice a year..... They have 80k in points and wanted to upgrade to J coming home with points. Told no go. Got to Malaysia??? And spoke to a guy that did not request points upgrade or have status... that was upgraded for the last leg... For free. They wrote a letter on return and the response was... Like ohhhhhh well bad luck.

As far as I understand, they work their cabin crew hard. As in one day turnaround on most long haul. And the pay has dropped off in the last few years once they built their reputation as a leading airline, so they no longer had the need to poach quality experienced crew from other airlines. So a majority of their crew now burn out in 1-2 years so the turnover is very high leading to inconsistent service.

I will check this with a few contacts who have crew in their family. I doubt it has dropped however.

Generally their labour relations don't appear flash and certainly nothing to write home about. Nor is the Middle East in general on any contentious social issues. I generally avoid them and the place by voting with my feet.

I probably didn't phrase that correctly. What I meant was that the starting wage for new applicants isn't as good as it used to be.

Yes ok. Probably correct and by our standards not flash. Supply and demand. Excellent starting salary if you come from the Philippines or say Pakistan.

Starting salaries have dropped in our business and industry as well.

There is only one situation worse than being exploited.......

I'm sure there are plenty of much worse situations. In my industry, the use of interns are quite prevalent. Won't worry about paying them any money, they'll come work for free for the "experience". Of course, after 3 - 6 months, the interns simply get replaced with another batch, and the companies don't really need to hire any permanent staff apart from replacing turnovers.

In the meantime, I'm trying to do an international multi-city booking, and since we can't choose booking classes there, I'm waiting for the QF flights to go up in price to get the booking class I want rather than going with the codeshare option.
 
Avoid EK 777 in J and Y. A380 is the way to go if you're flying EK and most routes now have that aircraft these days..

An intern is a short-term contract, where a slave is a full time position. At least you have better job security as a slave.
 
EK has been falling shorter than they have in the past, it all happened with their "enhancements" of pricing and FF program back in January, and has had me challenge my choice of alliances more than once, I guess my current trip with them to PVG via SIN, CMB, & DXB may have me decide what I am doing.

So, does the ATO officially recognise "Slave" as an occupation? Trying to imagine the deductions? Calomine Lotion for the flogging scars?

That would be a business expense ... along with lodging and found ...
 
I flew MEL - KUL last month with EK and found the seat terrible. Hard right where my donkey sits. Came home on AirAsia "business Class" and found seat much more to my liking. Didn't really miss the gold and wood effect or the electric blinds and partition. The blinds and partition are manual on Airasia but seeing i only open and close either one once i can cope with that also. Ok...maybe the food was better on EK. Used my macbook air for the inflight entertainment coming home.
