If my cat constantly sits in front of a portable gas heater (rinnai avenger 25 plus) will she get sick?
It's one of the largest of the unflued gas heaters and I have a hard time moving her our of the heat stream but every now and then I think she's gone stupid.. so I am wondering if she is getting carbon monoxide poisoning or something... would that happen on a serviced appliance?

Maybe she's getting high?

If there's carbon monoxide poisoning you'll die as well.

The inlaws had the same heater (before they passed it onto us), the cats never seemed to have any issues with being in front of the heater

Your cat will be fine. Lulled into a kitty-coma by the warmth, more than any noxious gases. Growing up, our moggy left claw marks in the carpet when we tried to shift him away from the bar heater - even when we could smell errant fur stands singeing against the safety grill.

Now if it was a canary...

I was shocked by how quickly our crossed eyes clumsy cat learnt to give us the death stare... If I turn the heater off (we have a small flat so it gets hot super fast) bam I get this chilling glare from the cutest cat. It is extremely off putting.

Luckily she isn't sitting close to it about 1.5 m away - she's too fussy to sit on the floor in front she has to sit on the comfy sofa.

My cat tries to climb into the open fire. I keep finding the screen pushed aside...she must really want to get warm.

My cat sounds positively sane in comparison. During the day she'll change window sills to follow the sun around and then in the evening on my lap.

Bella is certainly a bit special. I guess being deaf she can't hear the fire, so its just something nice and warm that she wants to get close to. Same with the oven when you open the door. There have been a few singed whiskers from sniffing candles along the way too...

I know what you mean about them being special. Petal was rescued from Lort Smith and has taken over my little home. Nothing is too much trouble for her to explore. My biggest failing as a cat owner is refusing to participate in the 2.00am play times.

She does get offended if I laugh at her, especially when she fell into the bath.

Ah yes, Bella is a big fan of the middle-of-the-night head-butt. Apparently whacking me in the face will make me let here into bed. On the other hand, she loves to get in the shower with me

My cat head butts me too, at exactly 4.30 pm each night for food.

Do cats exactly head butt people, or do they merely put their head against you and move up and down as such?

All this talk of "head butting" makes Garfield's antics of getting attention seem rather tame. :)

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Bella just lost quite a few brownie points; got home to find my knife block on the floor. And the tip of the big cooks knife wedged into the block. Not impressed.

Probably a relief that she didn't hurt herself.

Well, yes. But my knives were brand new (as is everything in my kitchen as I've just started living on my own), and its not the first thing she has busted.

She is sporting a mysterious gash on her ear from last week, no idea what she did to get that.... And I still have to work out how to get the blade out of the wood

Yes, I call it a bunt! They tuck their chin down and boompf! with the top of their heads. Only does it when hungry.

They do it to leave scent on you, don't they? (*seriously*)
