I hired a car on weekend and as I was driving out realised the fuel tank wasn't full. They upgraded me to a Koleos. Now that was an eye opener. Keyless start/stop. Rear view mirror really dark at night. Not a bad car.

I got a loan car afer dropping my car off for repairs. Daihatsu Charade. 3 door 3 speed automatic. Manual windows. Over 300000 km. Still going strong!! 1983 according to build plate. I think an earlier version had a 2 speed auto.

Charade was my first car! Did me good, was a good first car (4 door).

At the risk of making this too off topic for the off topic thread by continuing the daihatsu thread,,

The 4 door (the sedan version) I think were produced from 1990 and it was the first time the engine size went above 1000cc. Previously was about 800cc - (quad bike territory). Though some were turboed.

Ok JohnK , Ive interspersed this thread with something completely off topic. You can now insert something about golf..

It was blue, rego# OVL 496. Thats all I remember but it was a good little car, cost about $4K (2nd hand).

Just out of curiosity one day I put an old rego for a car I owned (RFN 145) into google and was surprised at the detail that came up. Wouldn't happen with every vehicle though I would imagine.

My first car in Australia was a mid 90s Daihatsu Charade - 4 door hatch. Bought after I walked 8km along Parramatta Rd one Saturday morning shortly after I arrived here 14 years ago. Served me well!

Used the adaptive cruise control on car for first time. A bit unnerving to say the least when car mirrors the same speed as the car in front and maintains a safe distance. It also comes to a stop all by itself when the car in front stops

We have two cars, one with ACC and one without. When I jump into the older car, I have to hit the brakes sometimes on the freeway as I'm about to run into the back of the car in front. The ACC is brilliant on both the Hume and in heavy traffic nearer the CBD - set and forget.

There's only one thing that the ACC on my car misses: a stationary white van: it will cheerfully run into the back of said van at 60km/h :shock: ! It perfectly detects anything that's moving, though.

Think I am bit of a control freak when it comes to driving. I hate any form of cruise control. Weird I know.

Ditto. My daughter found CC on my car end of last year. "I did not know your car had CC, as I have never seen you use it" YEP, I have NEVER used it.

My mum refuses to use hers, and not becuase she's a control freak. Though I think a speeding fine might have changed her mind. I love using it, but no point on my commute to work, the traffic is too variable.

My first car was a 97 Mitsubishi Mirage in a delighful "miami greeen". Cried when I sold it, she took me everywhere without a single hiccup.

Try a drive across Australia - and back - to incentivise yourself .

My new car has eyesight and yes it's something that does take time to get to trust, especially the braking features.

The ACC is will work following traffic in a straight line. But will chuck a wobbly going round a bend as it loses the "sight" of the car in front.
The acceleration is also slow and the distance to the car in front is too far away even with the closest setting so others will take advantage of that and sneak into the spot causing ACC to brake hard. I have to recommence the motion from a standstill position. Once its going it will take over.
I think its not really suited to city driving.

Many people would not use CC in wet conditions as aquaplaning or wheel slip in the wet will cause the CC to think its slowing down and accelerate the wheels. Not sure if thats still valid.

My husband was very excited to see a Tesla at Castle Towers shopping centre last weekend. It was charging up at the electric car section.

Theres a car reporter that lives in my local area, hes always got a new car and Ive seen a group of guys on more than one occassion checking out the car, asking him questions, at my local Coles.

No but Im sure they would have liked to - it was the new Jag that came out last year and another time was some very expensive sports car but I dont know what it was.

Ive seen this guy a few times, I know hes a car reviewer/reporter. You wouldnt know it by the looks of him as he looks more like a skinny old mechanic than a published reporter that gets to drive hundreds of thousands of dollars in cars (the sports car was about $200K hubby told me).

I never use cruise control on my car as I basically only go local and there are too many sets of traffic lights ! But dr.ron loves his CC and uses it when ever he can, but he does all the long distance driving in the family !

my kids are learning in an automatic. I dont see the point of learning in a manual especially when all our cars are autos.
