Last week was awilcockson’s 39[SUP]th[/SUP] birthday where drinks were organized in the Virgin lounge before dinner at Satay Hut, it was mentioned that it was a practice run for the BIG one next year.

What has been organized for you or someone you know for their important birthdays eg 40, 50, 60, 75.

Some people go flying for their birthday example, Hong Kong

I reach an important birthday milestone next year, so last weeks event started thinking what do I want to do for my birthday.

I am gathering ideas and what people have done, it doesn’t have to be a trip away but it could just be something different, a new location or someone where local with family and friends.

So just interested in what people have done for their birthdays, or what birthdays have you attended that were memorable.

I already know someone who can make a cake. :D

For DH's 40th (and sort of our 10th wedding anniversary), we had a meal with family and friends in the private dining room at Aria at Brisbane. Before there was Aria in Brisbane, we were thinking of taking our wedding party + partners to Aria in Sydney to dine at the Chef's table. Aria opening in Bris gave us the opportunity to share the event with more people. It was a three course meal, with two or three choices per course (no alternate drop!). A set wine menu, and guests were able to order other beverages.
DH is a bit of a Matt Moran fan. Not fan boy, just fan. :)
We were inspired by the small-ish group dinner (30-40 ppl) by another 40th we went to at Alchemy, with a similar set up; private room, three courses, guests able to choose from a few options for each course.

significant event next year. decided that I was going to spend it in Europe and fit in at least 3 F1 races around the month of may 2012. did enough tourist things in Europe in our 20's, so it will just really be a catch up with friends and racing. nearly book abu dhabi for this year, but the $$ were adding up for 3 of us, so mentioned to significant other that we would be better flying J and doing the 3 races with only 2 of us going and leaving teenager behind for a change. he's going to go early, and i will fly J by myself and meet him there. that alone is enough for celebrating my significant event. Monaco here we come!

Next year is my 40th and am doing 10 days in Fiji and at the moment we have about 8 to 10 friends coming over as well.

I went to the Stark Bier fest in Munich for my 40th this year

Edit: oh bragging is happening. Well I had the chance to drink 4 or 5 litres of 7.5% beer on this occasion. I remember 4, my brother remembers 5. No hang over and last memory is getting off a tram. TR here somewhere.

I treated Shrek to a weekend in Melbourne, suite at The Langham .
My most memorable milestone birthday was my 21st spent in a disreputable Darwin watering hole with a bunch of drunk med students.
Since I lived in the UK then I had gone to a bit of effort for that one ;)

Last year we went to a friends 60th birthday which was celebrated by a one week cruise on the Pride of America out of Honolulu. :D

An excellent time was had by all :!:

Sounds like a great opportunity for a J status run BNE/NAN! Simo you might've opened the floodgates.

2 absolutely stand out bierthdays-my 23rd which I have recounted here before and currently in the thread-
http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ssion/welcome-aboard-sir-your-only-33821.html

But the standout was my 60th.I had just retired and was working at Mt.Isa over the Christmas,New Year period. My wife said that morning-I need the car today so meet me at the Buffs for lunch.Walked in and mrsdrron is waiting for me.She signs me in(she became a member).Walk into the dining room and there was what I call my extended family-My just ex-partner,his wife and 4 children who i do refer to as my grandkids.
Then to top it off my son calls from NYC where he was working then and tells me my present is for the 2 of us to go to the Cricket World Cup in the West Indies-I just have to get myself to NYC.

Most memorable would have been my 21st in Wanaka. I’d been drinking at the same bar for a while so was on good terms and was able to put a $400 bar tab down at Happy Hour prices, so it effectively became $800. Invited everyone I knew and by the next morning there was ~$30 left over. Put it in the tip jar and (a few days later) flew home!

There is one that stands out and I will never ever forget. It was my 25th birthday and I received the present of a lifetime. Sadly it has been downhill ever since. :(

I was planning on golfing in Scotland and Ireland for my 50th birthday in a few years but February is not a good time of the year to visit the British Isles especially for golf so will more than likely visit in either June or September. So while not exactly on my birthday it should be a trip to remember.

For my 40th birthday my wife bought me a Ducati motorbike (a 1983 bevel drive S2), and for my 50th (in a few years time) we're planning on spending a few weeks visiting Spain, France & Italy!

I had the reverse experience where I was in the air for my birthday and the calendar jumped over my birthday: I left LAX late in the evening on the 19th, and arrived in Australia on the 21st. Although one of my workmates tipped off the CSM, who arrived at my shoulder an hour into the flight with a scotch and a birthday wish.
